Hi, I have a stock (not tuned) BA xr6 turbo. Recently I noticed that my boost gauge was hitting around 15PSI.

I took the car to the local mechanic / dyno place, he check the car and said “looks like your boost solenoid is faulty”. He said that he got the air compressor and put little amount of air to the actuator & it move fine. He bypassed the solenoid and connect the pipe from the turbo direct to the actuator. Then I was getting 6-7PSI.

I bought a new Boost Solenoid and replaced the old one and reconnect the pipe back to normal. I get 14 – 15PSI. So then I did the bypass and connect the vac pipe from the turbo direct to the actuator, I get 10-12PSI….

Ive check for air leaks but couldnt see any.

Can someone suggest what’s going on with my car and how can I fix it.

Thanks

Does the actuator swing arm assembly swing freely when some air is applied to actuator?

Is the car hitting boost cut at all as in a rough ignition cut feel...over boost on a stock car is usually caught by around 8psi so this is really unsafe having 15psi come up.

What does she go like lol?

I'm gonna lock in A. possible fualty boost gauge.

Without driving the car it's hard for any of us to truely diagnose the situation.. it may be fine.

I will have to test the actuator swing freely myself, as I can only go by what the mechanic said.

She is flying when I hit boost. I driving it without hiting boost as I dont want to break anything.

There is no rough feel before or after boost

I dont think its the gauge, as its pulling very hard and you can hear the turbo spooling loud. Didnt do that before

might be time to upgrade the actuator mate in which case you may as well port the rear housing at the same time as it'll require you taking the turbo off (those labor costs!!)
