Time and time again we will read about the inline oil filter for the turbo.

I understand that the car has been moded, but how much of the modding we do to our engines directly effects the inline filter?

I really feel for you mate, cause if I was in your situation, I would not be able to afford a new turbo.

Ford should be held accountable in some way or form for this specific issue.

We should be able to report this ongoing issue back to them.

Thanks for the help. When I bought this ute I did a quick scan of this forum, lots of handy hints, if only I had come across the thread about the inline filter. Sounds like a bloody nightmare, there is someone at Ford who should hang their head in shame, I would bet it is a bean counter. That is the kind of thing that sends companies broke... oh yeah!

So plan is, remove turbo (halfway there) install Process West Stage 1 intercooler and piping, find best turbo for my setup, put it together, new coolant, oil, install aftermarket inline oil filter (earls already ordered). Maybe looking at exhaust, have 4inch dump, thinking one of those vacuum operated Nizpro ones, I like the idea of quiet off boost, loud on!

Do I need anything else? Someone mentioned a walboro fuel pump?

I need a 'good' tuner in Geelong. I am sick of driving to Melbourne but if I have to I will..... Any further suggestions?

Yep it will cost me $$$ which I didn't want to spend but seeing as its broken, I may as well spend a bit more!!!

Hopefully nothing else is damaged from this.

Love some comments, I will post a few pics as I go, maybe some from having fun before she blew!

Pitlane seem to have plenty happy customers.

A GS341 Walbro feeding a surge tank 044 would be better if funds permit and run fine on the factory regulator at low speeds pressure wise....the factory pump could feed it possibly but check with the tuner.

Does it have an upgraded actuator yet...if not it will need one of them as well:)

Not sure if Nizpro are still making the vacuum valve for the exhaust at the moment.

Current update: Found this in my Cat..... should it be there? A special secret cat turbine wheel!!

I rounded the last awkward nut on the turbo to exhaust manifold studs, so I ended up having to take off the exhaust manifold. Looked easy, what a *beep* of a job! Bolts pretty much pulled out alloy thread, hope it isn't too damaged to put back in! What do you reckon, new studs/gaskets? Had to grind off the nut from the stud, even with it on the workbench, totally stuck!

Another question, where the hell is the best place to drain the radiator?!!??!?

I have also received my Process West Stage 1 intercooler which I will begin installing. Also got my Earls Inline Filter. Haven't pulled out the factory one, but given the state my turbo is in, I assume it is totally blocked. Suprisingly no other damage that I can see from this..... yet!

I rounded it on my bf and my fg. Safe to say Im not going to take my turbo off on the next car I get lol

Hi All,

Thought I would give a bit of an update.

After a fair bit of work, the ute is back on the road.

I pulled off the old turbo with some difficulty (ended up having to take off the manifold, which pulled out the alloy block in the threads, a real bastard).

I then rolled down to Dalton Automotive and had a yarn to Dave down there who was helpful and knew a fair bit, which made me a little more confident, he said low 300kw would be easy.

I decided I didn't want to go crazy on the turbo etc and loved the response of the original FG so got another one.

Drained oil (very black) from the car and coolant (old and smelly).

Meanwhile I pulled off the front of the ute and fitted the new Process West Stage 1 stepped intercooler, little bit of a job, the worst part were the plastic wheel arches and the stone shield, all the plastic parts thread or break. The new intercooler doesn't have any rubber bushings, it also comes with some brackets to 'create' some room for the new intercooler, a tight but precise fit. All the tubing was a bit of a puzzle as it didn't come with any map or numbers but got it done via instruction photos.

I then installed my rebuilt turbo and put all the car back together. The turbo to sump line was an absolute nightmare! So difficult to reach, I will be checking that for leaks! I

was being pretty careful and took my time and it came together quite quickly. I then installed my Earls inline filter which installed well but I don't like how it sits in the engine bay at all.

New oil, filter and coolant, I also used a water wetter to improve cooling.

One thing that did happen was I broke a lightbulb inside the headlight trying to unplug a corroded connector, it was very difficult to get the broken glass out of the headlight. I

Anyway it all bolted up fine in the end with a few fiddly bits. The new intercooler looked pretty cool, nice and silver and shiny. On my ute it is the only giveaway as to what lies beneath.

Before startup I pulled the ignition coil fuse, I put the turbo end of the oil feed into a bottle and cranked on and off until I got some clean oil, this took a while! I wanted to make sure the new expensive turbo was getting oil.

I then put it all together and fired it up, it ran no worries.

After a little warm up I went for a drive (off boost), there must have been a big build up of oil in the exhaust from the turbo failure as she smoked for a fair while.

Anyway I dropped it off at Dalton Automotive.
