The boss motors are not a bad thing when I had my ba xr8 with full bolt ons and tune and my mate had a vy ss with bolt ons and tune 8 out 10 times I would get him in a race and they sound great with a good exhaust on them .

What the OP really wants is to pick up a nice cheap 3 valve 5.4.

I drove the XR8 and found the Boss as people are describing. Zero low down and at about 4500 rpm things would start happening in the examples I drove.

The BA's 3 valve is about the best towing motor around, it has bags of torque down low.

Mine stock would beat my brothers 2004 Monaro also stock at 0-100.

It's no highend speed demon, just the perfect tow car.

Sorry but I've got to jump in on the boss bashing.

Physically massive motor (especially for the capacity) which manages to have not much torque down low and yet not much power up high.

Dollar for dollar an ls will make more power, as much as we Ford lovers don't want to hear it.

WAAAY back to the original post.

I'd suggest ditching whatever you have and 'downgrading' to an early turbo (or aboss if you really must).

Plod about in it until you can afford to get an FG turbo/miami/whatever.

Unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to be able to afford the car their heart is set on straight away :(

I'd kill for an FG F6 or GT but it's just not going to happen... unlucky for me.
