Posted 21/01/04 09:39 PM Share Posted 21/01/04 09:39 PM When I asked my service manager about oils and putting a mineral in the thing between new and 3000kms he said I shouldn't.He agreed with the notion as put forward in the many threads about oils in here - that a mineral oil will help bed in the rings - but said that if there was ever a problem with the engine and an oil analysis was done, then Ford 'could' use that as grounds for reasons why the engine was ferked. He went on to say that while it was very very unlikely FoMoCo would reject such a warranty claim, you shouldn't give them any chance of blaming it on having used the wrong oil.Good point I guess but they'd be in for a fight if they ever told me that because I'd used a mineral oil my warranty was void. Wrong oil?????Pretty sure the svce manual only specifies the oil weight. So that is the only criteria you would need to worry about, not manufacturing process. It doesn't say mineral/synthetic or hybrid. If the book says 10W/40 that's all that matters. You're right, Ford would never try THAT one!BTW mine was at 9k when I changed it, so bedded in plenty. After my long trip (very hot days heavy load etc) the car did not use any oil and the colour was just like the day it was put in after 15,000km. So I plan to keep using the Mobile 1 stuff... igsta Member 371 Member For: 21y 4m 13d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 23/01/04 10:42 AM Share Posted 23/01/04 10:42 AM I changed the oil at 1000ks to Magnatec. The original oil was black already. I checked the oil at 4000ks and still golden colour. I will do another change at about 8000ks with magnatec aswell, I have been told this is the best stuff to run your car in. Then when you hit about 15000ks put mobil 1. Dont run synthetic after you have been running mineral oil for a while (15000+) as the synthetic oil breaks down the coke deposits in the turbo and abrasion starts to occur which then damages the oil seals in the turbo . They rec that the turbo is a bloody good T and should last the life of the engine.. some more info a series 60 detriot runs 60psi boost...
