Your not going a built bottom end so gains would be very minimal. There is no need to change them stock bf ones will be fine. Better off using the money on getting your oil pump gears done.

However, there are success stories with headwork. Very much a personal choice and requires research - you do need to find someone who knows this sort of work.Quality valve springs for sure. Camshaft changes - well, there are reports of good results and not so good results. If it is a BA, it does seem that the factory FG cams are a mild improvement and provide no issue for tuners. After that, it depends on the type of performance you want and how much you want to pay. It is also something you need to discuss with the tuner.well I am ordering a new bottom end on monday so there goes the idea of forged pistons, etc.just more wanting to know what sort of upgrade are worth in the top end and if its even worth touching it?I.e port and polishing the heads, valves, valve springs, cams?? if anyone has any info would be greatYou got your answer there. I can see you just want to hear yeh change cams itll be good. Mate if you want to change cams, change them. Not necessary, theres guys running HUGE power with stock ones. But if you after that nasty worked sound, then by all means go ahead. All depends on how much money you have to play with mate. Id first be looking at valve springs and oil pump gears, THEN worry about cams. They do sound mean with a decent set.Just my $0.02 Edited 24/09/13 01:36 AM by MA91CK
