Hey guys,

About 2 months ago I had some issues starting the car. Starter motor and battery did their job fine, it seemed as though there was a different issue. As it started to get worse, it was like the engine would start turning over then switch straight off. As its progressing its getting worse, and sometimes it starts fine, and sometimes now it will turn on, and the engine and car will shake for about 3 seconds and then turn off. I thought possibly it could be the oil pump or oil pump gears not circulating the oil properly, so its trying to turn on but can't properly cause the lack of oil.

The other day as I was driving, mainly was it was at a low speed, the engine oil light was coming off and on, and I've only had it serviced with new oil 2000kms ago, making me think even moreso that that is the issue... Would it be safe to assume I'm on the right track?

Any advice would rock. Cheers

If your oil pump was dead the motor would've seized by now....

Are there any knocks coming from the motor? How much oil was in the sump when you drained it?

Id be checking your oil pump

Just went through it with mine

Pulled pump out only to find ALL the screws on the backing plate of the pump loose...

Would most probably say losing oil pressure over time as the screws worked their way loose

I know with my car the oil light came on with 4 beeps a couple times when I was driving along and it turned out to be block oil line filter.

dont know about your other problem though.

Except I did used to have issues starting the car where it would turn over twice and then just stop and all the dash lights go off then back on again. I just got a good battery with higher cranking amps still appropriate for the vehicle and it has never done it since.
