Hi everyone, I recently picked up my 6 speed manual BF2 xr6 turbo in bionic blue and would like some help with direction in regards to performance upgrades. After owning commodores for the last 5 years this is all new to me, I have been searching the forum quite thoroughly but still cant make decisions haha. The car came with the Monza cooler, growler intake and turbosmart plumbback BOV. Being a 4/2006 model I don't believe it has the typhoon internals (which I only found out after I bought it) so im looking to keep power at around 300rwkw or even a bit lower. Is it worth keeping the cooler I have if?(from what I have read they aren't that great) or will I still get bad heat soak at that power? is the growler intake any good? I am thinking of going with twin 2.5inch xforce cat back and a venom cat/bolt in cat section. 42lb or 60lb injectors? and walbro gss340. possibly upgrading the hotside piping as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Cheyne

Where are you and what's your budget?

Tune, 60s, and 5" Cat is a winner every time. Should net 300 give or take. Monza will do at this level.

Buuuuutttt. If you have some cash to blow, go some writer parts. Scrap the 60s for ID's, a decent cooler like Nizzy, Plaz, or PW, because you will want more.

Im located at Lismore of the far north coast of NSW. My budget isn't real big, apprentice mechanic wages aren't the best haha so I would like to spend as little as possible (3ish grand). Being a daily im after a reliable car so im thinking this power level will be adequate for me. Would it be a good idea to upgrade the standard cooler piping as well? Im thinking somewhere on the Gold Coast or South Side of Brisbane for the tune?

If you are DAMN SURE you won't want more than 300rwkw ish then 42lb Bosch will do it (I use them but they are maxed out). Best to choose a tuner first then see what they recommend as some don't like to tune with certain injectors/parts etc.

Haunt the for sale areas for the coolers Henz mentioned with a piping kit to suit. I run stock crossover but replacement cold and hot side pipes and a Nizpro cooler. Should be able to pick similar up for a grand or less!

Yes I agree I think it would be a good idea to pick a tuner and talk to them about it. Elite and Hi-torque are on the top of my list so far. if I was to upgrade the cooler I would go with the pw stage 1, but I would like to keep costs down so I may just utilize the Monza as it is looking adequate for my needs. Unless of course I can get an absolute bargain on something else. Would I need to change the waste gate actuator to a turbosmart 12lb one? and will I have a lot of overboost issues that couldn't be rectified with a tune?

You won't Wont overboost with just a Cat, but you won't make more than 12-13psi but that's all you need!!

Stock crossover with a stage 1 style cooler can go over 360rwkw with a manual!!

How much can you do yourself? A tunes Going to set you back $1500-1800. Shop around if on a budget and snap up parts second hand. You don't

Need a fuel pump for 300 but if you can do it yourself then its only $150 for extra safety.

Stalk Facebook for cheap parts. Plenty of 60s for under $200.

Okay well that's good to know. Yeah I will be able to do most of the work myself, besides the tune of course, so that will keep costs down. I think I will do the fuel pump though just to be sure. Is the catback worth doing? even if it is just for a bit better note?

Na, no gains there till over 350kw, Chopping a muffler is the cheap easy option, drop the rear and throw on twin 3" blast pipes :)

Okay I will look into that instead if that means saving a bit of money. Thought I would miss the V8 sound but I'm loving the turbo so far. Is the actuator worth replacing?
