hey ll, as some may know im replaceing my diff, just waiting for it to arrive

anyway. I have been reading and it seems that a ba xr6t sedan (or any ba/bf sedan etc) diff does not have a gasket only the utes and wagons...is that correct?

do they not hve ne due to the fact the hat has allot of pressure on it under load that may break the gasket...if not why?

and do I just seal it up with some gasket goo? if so what the best stuff to use?...... as most will know, its a *beep* of a job to just change a diff gasket on a sedan.

thanks in advance :)

Don't use gasket goo.You need to use silastic or a similar bonding sealant for the diff cover and make sure both surfaces are clean and dry.

Any decent RTV silicon will do. I prefer Loctite Ultrablue. To be honest the brand and colour of the sealant is less important that the cleanup/prep steps.

Use some solvent based cleaner to remove ALL traces of oil etc from the mating faces before gooing them and use a stone/wet and dry to remove and obvious high/low spots/grooves/marks.

Do once Do right.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the reason is because the alloy hat expands a lot more than the cast iron housing, this can lead to the gasket squirming around.

As I said, not from ford directly but a tech mentioned that to me once...

as its been sitting for 3 years since being recoed and never been installed
