Hi Peter,

As much DRIVEABLE, RELIABLE power I can get! (given my budget ;) )These are my two criteria for all mods.

Realistically it's Stage 1 for me too - good bang, good bucks, insurance and EPA kept happy.

More would be great, but to put it in perspective, most of us weren't in 300KW cars 12 months ago...

I don't know about you guys but I have owned a few turbo cars before and the thing that kills the ford is the amount of lag this car has.

I don't really care about getting big KW gains, all I want is great throttle response minimal lag and about 300 kw at the engine.

I know Phase 1 gives around 280-290 kw with just engine management so I would like to able to get the revised inlet manifold and piping in stage 2

Peter the plug in module is a the best part of the system, and I am quite impressed with the intercooler too :)

Perfect system would be all Aps components with Nizpro inlet mainfold and a nice set of brembo brakes on the front.

oop's I better stop drooling now, keyboard is flooded

Realistically I would only be interested in doing a stage 1 type computer modification.

I am not interested in changing the exhaust at all, as I do too much freeway driving to bear the noise level (been down that road before).

At present I have only changed the brakes to get rid of the shudder issue.

I may make some changes to the intake, but mainly interested in the plug-in unichip phase 1.

Trumpy fair call many owners dont want more than 280Kw and the unichip is a stealth upgrade that does not draw unwanted attention from the law, and the car remains very quiet under all driving conditions.

Hey Peter,

For me it would be 280-300kw at the fly wheel and better brakes. A few years down the track I will be then looking at about the 330 - 350kw. I don't want to spend (can't) too much too early. A chip is perfect for me & am eagerly awaiting the info session re the plug in setup.

Cheers

I reckon if the stage 2 kit came down $5000 neat and even it would be a great bang for buck kit.

330kw of HSV eating power.

But I understand that some of the individual products listed about would be already heavily reduced.

Just out of curiosity Peter, a lot of the old wrx parts were recommended by you guys to fit ourselves for the DIY experience and this was something I quite enjoyed participating in, would the Phase II kit be able to be fitted DIY with the right tools, keeping in mind I myself have fitted fuel pumps and injectors to my vehicle before and would feel comfortable fitting them again as well as an exhaust & filter.

So how much would I be likely to save off the $5600 and something if I only had to pay for tuning of the uni-chip after purchasing the products? roughly?

you might (and mods too) consider this off topic, but I believe the amount of money I'd spend on a product would be greatly influenced by the ability to save a few $$$ on the DIY factor.

By the way, I really appreciate the time APS has dedicated theirselves as a technical rescourse for this website.

Cheers,

Matt

Hi Matt, Thanks for your post it great to know what you guys really think about performance. Now to your questions. There is no reason why the average person could not install the PHASE II system in their own garage at home ( given that they like working on cars ) though I like to dyno the car B4 starting on any mods this way you have a base power figure to start from. We charge $700 to do the base dyno run install the entire PHASE II system and then custom tune the UNICHIP before printing the b4 and after dyno sheets. So there is some saving for the DYI approach though many would prefer to pay to have a trained technician work on the car. If you prefer the DYI approach and feel confident to carry out the installation I am sure we can assist you.

PHASE I will take the power to 270 to 280Kw depending on how strong/good the base engine is. At this power level (280 kw) the stock fuel injectors are flat out, so to go further the stock injectors will need to be replaced with larger multi orifice injectors the current price for PHASE I is $1650 installed and custom tuned with b4 and after power graphs. PHASE II is $5650 installed and tuned and generates 330KW of power. Now go and have a cold beer for me as well.

Peter

Sorry to be a pain but I have a couple more questions.

Does the new plug in version include bigger injectors for the ~$1650?

If not how much more fitted?

How much for the APS exhaust , from what I have read it reeks of quality ?

Can it be purchased separately ?

As you can tell Feb/March cant come quick enough.

Cheers

Hi Peter,

How much power do I want?  Gee, I have had the Phase II for under 2 months.  The power gain was AWESOME.  But, guess what?  I want more.  It's amazing how you get used to things quickly.

I may be a minority here, but I dont so much give a sh*t about KW or HP figures - although big numbers are nice.  I just want my car to sound good and eventually run a sub 10 second 1/4mile time.

Like I said when we met in your showroom, I'll then go down the NOS path once 10's are acheived without it.

See you and Rainer on Tuesday mate, and thanks for your contribution and expertise on this forum.  I seriously wouldn't trust the tuning of my car to anyone other than you and your crew at APS.

Cheers!

I did believe you when you said you love plenty of grunt, and why not if you can afford it and its your passion go for it, take no prisoners.

I have done centre muffler and K&N panel filter. Next step will be a unichip. With the centre muffler removed and the K&N filter what rear wheel kw can I expect after adding the chip and running optimax?

Ideally in the future I would love 350kw neat however I don't have the dollars required for phase 2 or 3. Before I move on to these I will be getting DBA slotted front rotors and better pads and also a Herrod sureshift. In the meantime I think I will sit it out at least another 6 months to see what develops in the market and if there is any price movements.

CFM I doubt that the muffler mod or air cleaner will produce any power over the stock power output, that said those mods cant do any harm. The limit of the stock fuel injectors is 280KW, so with the UNICHIP installed and tuned max power will be in the 270 to 280Kw depending on how good the base engine is. From there you will need larger injectors and a very low restriction exhaust system to make further progress.
