Must be different from state to state/territory, when I worked for Ford in the ACT, it was the installers responsibility to stamp the engine number into the replacing block, and destroy/dispose of the old block.

I'm just going to do it right and follow the RTA advice. Thought I'd get some views or other advice.

it is different for ford dealers compared to other mechanics, ford would normally be getting the engine back and making sure it is destroyed, never to be used a again, I know that dealership staff have to stamp numbers on new engines when replaced under warranty.

well my blocks in the same boat :S no numbers but I got all the paperwork from ford for the new block,,,, and iv got photos of the old block with a crack in it... (funny thing is my old block never had numbers..)
