Hi guys!

Was washing my XR6T tonight and have surprising found a heap of stone chips on the front. The car is only 2yrs old (March 2011). It's as if the pain is super thin. Was wondering if any1 else has had the same problem? If so have u tried to fix it? And how have u repairs it?

Cheers guys!

FG Paint is brittle, The lightest of contact can give chips but I only notice this on my metal parts paint, not on bumper/plastics though so far.

Buy some genuine Ford touch up paint and then sharpen a bike spoke on a bench grinder to a thin profile depending on how big your chip is, e.g the smaller the chip the sharper you sharpen the bike spoke.

Dip it in the touch up paint and have a clean rag on hand to wipe the paint off incase you drop too much on. You want to drop just enough paint to fill in the chip, but not too much to make it a blotch, I sometimes fill it up in stages until it gets even.

Let the paint cure first for about 5 minutes which will give you a better idea of how much you have filled the spot up, then repeat again.

Before you do the touch up I'd recommend you wash the bonnet etc with Care Pro Iron X.

This will turn any oxidization caused by damage back to bare metal, before you paint.

The soap will turn purple as it goes to work, highlighting damaged areas.

Yeah multi stage filling is good on the larger ones. What sh!ts me is the tiny little ones like pimples, paint is cracked and raised but not actually gone. Not sure what to do about those, I just seal them up. Could polish or ultra fine sand them back I guess but you'd be hitting a much larger spot than necessary.

Mate I literally cop stone chips on a daily basis...noticed another one on my rear drivers door this morning as I got out of the car at work and the light was shining directly on it.

What annoys me is that I travel on the M4 Motorway every morning and without doubt...there will be a tipper truck somewhere in the vicinity...I try and stay away from them but some how I'm always caught up behind one, or trying to overtake one to avoid it.

I can't seem to win...

Beyond all doubt, the most frustrating thing. Got two/three of these on the roof right at the top of the windscreen seal (amongst others on the bonnet). I know they are there, and it just sh1ts me. The joys of motoring I suppose....

I think if you were really close all the time it wouldn't be as bad. They slow down horizontally when they bounce a bit but you are still going the same speed. Also tailgating would protect from oncoming stones. Sometimes I feel a bit safer when the order is truck -> SUV -> me, hahaha.
