Hi Peter.  I'll need a brake upgrade when I fit the mods later this year....

I'm sticking with 17's. (more cost effective)

Red calipers are fine; can always paint a different colour if desired...

Cost?  Hmmm,  I'm a bit of a tight-ar$e, so I'm always looking for the best value which is practical and effective. On-going costs re replacement pads is also an issue....  Got a shock when I overheard the GT (Brembo brake) pads alone  cost several thousand to replace!

Peter, if you keep coming up with practical, effective and reliable solutions at a decent cost for all us rev-heads, you'll need to open a bank account in the Cayman Islands.  ;)

luv your work!

cheers, tom

GUYS thanks for all of your feedback , I want to develop a brake set that will stop the xr6t like a PORSCHE which are renouned to be the best brakes on a production car. I know the T is a heavy car so the brakes will need to be awesome to match the power that we are now generating.Keep your thoughts and views coming its all good information.

I feel price needs to be around the $1500 mark.

Your hopefull, a set of pads (1 pair, just the front) for Brembos cost almost that. You probably couldn't buy the standard brakes at Ford spares for that.

Exactly Falchoon,

You have to be realistic regarding the price. If you want quality gear you have to pay.

I reckon the $2500 to $3000 would be more like it, to fit 17s.

Red is faster. (Except for Quicksilver)

Everyone also knows that red calipers stop better.

Red it must be.

17's are the go, having more market penetration than 18's.

A suggestion is to include upgraded front rotors, front calipers, front pads, rear pads, braided lines and appropriate fluid (dot 5.1).

I would also recommend making sure that they dont cost anymore than something you could get from Ford spare parts..

Peter,

When you're talking about huge front rotors, are you talking one piece, or two piece?

My preference would be for the two piece to help with heat dissipation and warping due to heat etc.. But I realise that heat dissipation is probably not a real issue with most of the cars these upgrades will end up on !

As for colour, yes Red may look nice, but then is it just going to be seen as another 'Brembo wannabe' ? Why not choose something away from the norm, say a nice Blue(print) colour which would look good, and also be different to the majority of other brake upgrades !

Regarding the rear's it may be nice to match the front rotors, with at least larger rear rotors (Not necessarily huge rotors, but larger slotted ones perhaps), and just supplying brackets to offset the existing rear callipers (To compliment the improved performance/look of the fronts)

I would also hope that Braided lines would be included to assist with consistent pedal feel under all conditions etc..

My vote is also for the 17" wheels, and I would be willing to fork over around the 3K mark for the whole upgrade.

Red sounds good to me. If $1500 was possible I would snap them up immediately, however, $3k may be more realistic for a BIG setup, but considering the majority of these cars don't do track work, I'm not sure how many people will fork out that much. $1500 would be my limit I think as I was considering a relatively minor brake upgrade anyway which would cost less than this. DBA slotted and better pads.

Cheers,

Chris

CNC, I reckon your comments are spot on in terms of the component specifaction ,though its not possible to build PORSCHE brake performance at FORD pricing. My objective is to build HI Po brakes which stop hard and dont shudder after a few clicks. I doubt that this can be put together for much under 3 K. Question is how many of you guys are really interested in big brakes as described and would you purchase a set in this price range.
