Kimbo, what is your list of rear wheel drive vehicles that may be on your list?

Mate I lease my cars and unless my financials change in the next two years it's fair to say that my next car will have to between 47 k and 57 k.

So in 2016 my options are xr6t I think the supercharged Xr8 will be gone sad but fuel would kill me. Whilst a stock XR6t is a wonderful thing. If they feel dated now and they haven't been released they will feel very dated in 2016.

So given my budget to get a RWD manual with a level of luxury that two Skoda Superbs haver accustomed to, then the only answer would be the latest Expensive Daewoo Commodore. Whilst cough cough I think they are a great car. I wouldn't buy one and instead go a euro again.

Sadly I thing the RWD manual will be a rare rare beast to buy new in ten years or so. I talking sedans and wagons not pickups. The only options will be low/ medium priced cars like the MX5 and Toyota 86, cats like the Mustang and co from America and high end rare Euro.

Unfortunately my budget does not stretch to a Jaguar or Maserati. Even though they are not the best cars for the money they ask. There is something about them that I love.

In short I may never own another RWD manual, may never own another manual. But it will be a sad sad day when there are not affordable options such as what is about to disappear.

The prospect you describe certainly does not sound great for car enthusiasts. Brand new cars may not be in the options, I guess.

There is an argument that if we supported our local cars then they wouldn't be disappearing.

But in the Ford side of the fence. From the XF to the BA the pickings were slim. Though in that time I bought an XH xr6 ute, an El XR6 and an El xr8 all second hand. I did purchase a BA mk 2 XR6t brand new. Plus several other fords over the years. I'm sure there were several others on here that did the same. On the Expensive Daewoo side of the fence. They were supported better by after market companies such as Walkinshaw and they had there fair deal of supporters.

So why have the gone broke? I don't know and I'm sure there will be plenty of opinions given. I do however have two opinions myself.

One

The Australian market was never big enough to self sustain and unless tariffs were harsh Ford and Expensive Daewoo were always going to die. Doesn't explain the BA and onwards out of no where as mentioned before the decade prior to that was very uninspiring.

Two

GMH America and Ford America wanted our local product to die so they had another market to sell us their sh*t.

Yes it will be sad.

No your facts are wrong

Mate it's always those who don't own it that know best....

It was a sarcastic comment to support what Arron said above.

arronm does actually own a VF, though... so we're waiting for his response.

.........I didn't know he owned a VF, I swear he was lining up for a new XR8 in special order fire engine red :troll:

So based on the "only if you own it logic" how can anyone bag the FGX? I gave my honest opinion (which was apparently the wrong thing to do) and it's only been met with childish retorts...I'm still yet to understand what facts I've fcked up.

Kimbo I think both of your assumptions are pretty much on the money. Ford Aus seem to have given up years ago and were willing the falcon to die. It's just plain sad.

We're all still waiting for arronm to let us know what you got wrong. Something tells me you're not wrong at all...
