I will look into it for you, as I have friends that have built them from the ground up. (10 sec Cars) ($30-$40k spent on them! )Depends whether he wants to do it himself or pay someone to do it.

Twin turbo setup will cost big$$ with a relatively small gain against a well built single setup.

Correct me if I am wrong anyone, but to get a twin working properly they will never come on boost together, it is a sequential set up.

Being that the motors are quite old, I would suggest him buying a VL turbo

engine and rebuilding from the ground up, rather than trying to turbo an N/A car. Not only will it be cheaper, but will cause less headaches in setting up.

Another good contact in Melb is ATP, alot cheaper than AVO and they had a quicker VL on the quarter. He will also need to get an LSD for it if he is going to get serious. The VL always responds well to basic mods before touching the internals ie bigger intercooler, exhaust, induction, then dial up the boost with a in cabin boost controller. This should give you high 12's low 13 passes without touching the computer or engine internals to start with. Also Strengthen the Auto before any mods as well. :ta:

Hi richdave, yeah did they what, the only thing that made that Late model camira worthy of speech was the lovely Nissan RB30 turbo engine. They were very easy to mod up and you couldn't kill them with a bag full of bricks. The Sammit brothers got 1000 HP out of that engine with a stock bottom end. (obviously the rest of the motor was extremely modified) An engine before its time that one

Personally I would just use the single turbo setup. It's not to hard to get 300kw@ rear wheels out of a VL on premium unleaded. I would suggest to your friend to get the factory inlet manifold / plenum power ported so theirs even flow for all cylinders and also gives a good increase in hp. I would also power port the factory exhaust maniold and the comp cover of the standard turbo. If you do this and fit a 3" mandrel exhaust, and possibly fit a bigger turbo or modify the factory turbo to t3/t4 specs. I think a unichip would be recommended as well. Modifying a VL using power porting it can be very cost effective.

If you interested in the power porting or would like to find out more about it you can contact ATS (Australian Turbo Sales) in Tullamarine as they are one of the workshops that can do the power porting.

If twin turbos is a must then the ultimate is to install an RB26DETT into the car. If a single turbo is what your after then get the VL turbo motor (RB30DET) and build it up. I wouldn't suggest getting an RB25DET or RB20DET because I've seen people do this and get minimal gain over the 3L VL motor.

There's lots of different options, deciding which one will be the hardest.
