Amp And Sub Install...

I went down to my friendly local jb store yesterday, I was looking at a cadence sub and amp combo the guy there said if I was to get the amp that he was showing me basicaly I could just get standard rca cables from the amp cut the ends of the leads and just tap them into my rea speakers... no line converter nothing?

Dose this sound right? if so its starting to sound pretty easy now :-D

And get a line converter. Plus don't listen to the guys at JB Hifi they know nothing about car stereos. Take it

To someone like Alberts car stereo they know their stuff. Plus cascade is the cheapest of the cheapest, Atleast put something good in it, pioneer at the min.

Yea cadence is a terrible brand! At least go entry level option audio, pioneer or even sony xplode lol

And as Jacob said you can get a line converter for under $20. My line converter and wiring cost me about $300 to do my whole system, more expensive than what some spend on everything. Well worth it though..

You can definitely not do that! That's high level output up to 10-15 watts going into low level input (RCA) that is a sure fire way to f*ck your amp up. Don't listen to those idiots at budget shops.

ok so probly looking at a rockford 10" 300w rms sub and amp now..

I also had another idea...

I was looking in the boot today and realised that the car has the cut out in the pacel shelf

for the 8" sub what would be better sound an aftermarket 8" sub and amp in the pacel shelf

or my first idea of the 10" in the boot...

I wouldn't bother with a 8inch in the parcel shelf. For the money and time you spend on it you'll be very disappointed. You can't go wrong with a 10inch Rockford in a correctly matched box.

rockford tend to not have a very good sensitivity which means they take more power to make the same level of sound as a more "efficient" woofer. look at all the woofers in your price range and compare the sensitivity ratings, whichever has the highest go for it

with a 10" you arent going to get huge output so sensitivity is crucial.. especially in a big sedan

sensitivity is massive; 3 dbs higher is equivalent to DOUBLE the amplifier power

so if you get a 10" that has a sensitivity of 86db running off a 400wrms amp that will put out volume equivalent to a sh*tter woofer with say 83db sensitivity running off 800wrms!

if you're looking for a cheapy I'd go pioneer straight up, 6db higher sensitivity than the punch series rockford 10", if you have money to burn quality brands like image dynamics, focal, re audio etc.

but if you want bling rockford is good..

So the rockford I was looking at getting is the 10" shallow punch p3, 4OHM,600watt, 300w rms, response 43-250 hz,

sensitivity 83 db.. hope that's enough info..?? how dose that sound..??

Pretty bad tbh, sorry. 40hz response is terrible, it would start to roll off well before that as well, so more than likely it will be really one notey.. Certain frequencies will sound really loud and lower down it will just be nothing.

Sensitivity is bad as well. Cos it's a 10" that isn't gonna be great but you'll get one with better than 83db sensitivity. Its also cos rockford have those thick plasticy cones, they look awesome but it a lot of weight for the amp to push around
