Spoony Member 250 Member For: 14y 2m 23d Gender: Male Location: Brisbane Posted 25/01/14 08:17 AM Share Posted 25/01/14 08:17 AM I've just been reading the legislation. Looks like the tyre shop stuffed me around claiming that the 235/45 are illegal... my tyre placard says 245/45R17 95W.. the ATR2 is 235/45/17 97XL therefore the speed rating is the same (W or 270kph for both) and the 235 actually has a higher load rating 730kg vs 690kg. QLD transport says tyres can be up to 70% narrower than placard as long as speed and load ratings aren't less than recommended. Should I go back and the get 235/45 ATR2 fitted instead? They're $80 cheaper all up and the newer compound. Yep. The 2s are far better in all regards. Noise, grip, wear etc. I run 235s instead of the stock 245s (18s BFiis) and still much better than 245,ATR 1s. They even have 245 in stock size now but $200 more a set, meh 235s will do. As you were.Yeah for future reference, Achilles ATR Sport 2 tyres currently don't come in the correct size for the 17" wheels on a FG XR6T ute (18" and higher are fine I think). The correct size is 245/45R17.I didn't find this out until after the tyre shop fitted the older 1st gen ATR Sports on my car instead, assuming that I didn't care about the difference.I'm still not sure if I want to get the ATR2 fitted with the smaller 235/45 profile, the diameter is only 9mm smaller than standard and I have actually been running 235/45R17 since owning the car anyway. I went back to tyre shop today, argued with the owner about the legality of fitting them (proved him wrong in front of customers). In the end I can take the car back and get the ATR2s fitted if I want to (they're also $80 cheaper for a set)

jabtronic Member 70 Member For: 12y 6m 13d Posted 28/01/14 02:41 AM Share Posted 28/01/14 02:41 AM Yeah theres one issue though, I had 235/45s on the car since I purchased it 12 months ago and I've been having numerous TC and ABS errors randomly occur in the last few months. The diagnostics tool always says it is the front right wheel sensor but I have swapped it out and the error remained. The errors haven't occurred since putting the 245/45 on so I'm starting to think that the incorrect tyre size was the cause

Spoony Member 250 Member For: 14y 2m 23d Gender: Male Location: Brisbane Posted 28/01/14 03:29 AM Share Posted 28/01/14 03:29 AM jab, Only time I've had had such issues, which showed up by the gearbox not shifting past 3rd in 'auto' was due to the standard spare on the front left with the stock 245/40/18's! haha. Different diameter across axles can cause it, I think only on the front but not 100%. I've run different sizes front to rear with issue, and 235/40/18 vs 245/40/18 hasn't been an issue. The rolling height difference is almost just the tread wear new to old on a 245 anyways. Threeta,Wow $1000 for ATR2's, poor kiwi's. I paid $500 AUD a set a month ago. Haven't priced Invo's but I have no doubt they'd be at minimum double the price and for me not worth it given I need tyres near ever 6 months.
