I tried opening the fill plug on my zf yesterday and it was REALLY tight.

I am worried about stripping the socket in the plug.

Does anyone have any tips for successfully removing the plug?

Is it better with the gearbox hot or cold?

Penetrating oil?

Any tips gratefully accepted.

I am worried that the hex hole in the filler plug might get rounded off with too much force.

I bought a new set of kincrome "allen key" sockets and some perpetrating oil tonight so might try again tomorrow.

I do have an 18v screwdriver which has rattle gun action. Worked amazingly well putting screws into our hardwood fence.

I will give that a go.

Drive the car so the trans is hot before you attempt to remove the plug. If you can give not a couple of whacks with a hammer and punch to shock the threads and tighten it slightly before cracking it.
