Leaking Thermostat Housing

I recently noticed a leak from my thermostat housing, so I took the housing off check the gasket and there were no marks and it had only been replaced by me about 12 months ago. I check and made sure the top thermostat housing was bolted down firmly and correctly. The b@stard still leaks ! I am headed to ford to grab another gasket shortly, but most annoying thing is this has done it before, could the housing be farked or is it most likely just another rubber gasket. Would it be wrong of me to use some gasket goo or silicone to seal the top of the housing using a thin bead around the two joining parts? See attached pics of leak

Mine was same, had the O ring replaced. No more leaks since, however my mechanic says you need to make sure the gasket recess is clean from old gasket material and it needs to be tightened with a torque wrench otherwise they will leak again. Not sure what torque setting he used though.

Ok cool, I will borrow a torque wrench and see about getting the torque setting from Ford. I put some silicone on it tonight and cleaned the coolant stains off, so will take for a drive tomorrow after work and see how it holds up. I cleaned the recess out many times with a brush before fitting the new gasket but might have done a sh*t job. Will post tomorrow and see how it goes.

Get some 400 wet and dry sandpaper and some crc and work the sealing face on a flat surface to get rid of any high spots - clean with break clean if you are going to use silicone afterwards.
