Hi all just wondering if anyone has put in a Home Security CCTV System.

What have you install?

What's your view on the system?

What would you recommend?

I have been looking at this systems a Swann 4 channel PRO looks to be a good all round system.

Not CCTV.. This uses your home wifi.. Pretty nifty as you can view the cameras from wherever you are on your phone.. And get alerts when certain cameras detect movement..

Cameras all record to internal memory off a battery if you lose power or Wifi.. Then update the saved information on the computer when wifi becomes available..

Works okay... Pretty good quality..

I was looking at the Uniden Guardian system as it's also wireless and can be viewed through your smart phone. The only thing that put me off was its battery and not on mains power.

After doing some reading its starting to look like that most systems are head into mobile viewing.

The swann one im like can be viewed through your smart phone.

Yeah the Logitech one is good as its both mains and battery powered.. Plus it only records if motion is detected..

how much don't you want to spend?

my mob supplies/installs all CCTV hardware to woolworths nationally, I personally would not touch any of the swann/logitech chinese crap you can buy, then again I understand not everyone wants to pay $200 for a reasonable analogue camera let alone <$500 for a megapixel IP camera

No cheapies can do night time recording properly. Proper IR illumination is the go.

nothing worse than having a cheap cctv system. only to one day get broken in to, and view the video footage to be poor quality and you not to be able to make out a face or even get a rego plate.

food for thought

haha, I couldnt do anything half decent for that amount of money - that's chinese hardware territory that. A decent four camera install can range from 1600 to 4k.

A lot of the better camera's these days come with SD card slots so no need to plug into a NVR or PC - apps control them.

Cops don't bother with crap video quality anymore.

even a cheapo NVR with a couple of terabyte of storage costs a few hundred. Then there is power supply, camera, cable etc etc. There are ebay specials that come in a lot less.

Best of luck!
