the new valve could have been bent from broken engine pieces after the fact, any bent valve would not have sealed properly from the time of being bent and you would have had running issues

So I guess I check the valves don't leak and then remove them to see if they are bent? Remember these valves have without doubt made serious contact with the pistons I would be more surprised if they were strait

don't get me wrong about doubting they may have hit in the past, but there is no way they can be bent and give you no indication of poor running as they could not seal even if very slightly bent, even if there was 1 slightly bent valve the car would feel like it is running on 5 cylinders and the valve would be burnt if continued to run it for any period of time, you need even compression for the engine to run smooth

I agree if there was any loss of compression it would likely run poor, but the bend in these valves is only slight and the spring weight alone has been bending them shut finally resulting in the catastrophic failure.

As it stands I have now formalised it in writing and given them the opportunity to repair the vehicle, from here I will contact ford hq I will also contact the motor trade association and start to proceed with plans to go to court, this will also require me to have the engine thoroughly examined with a report on there findings. This report will hopefully prove the valves have no leak down, that they have not seized in the head, that the marterials have not been overheated and that the rest of the valves are also bent. Can someone tell me if when the guide broke which one was it and would they have replaced it with a different type to what was originally fitted. I'm not going to give up on this as I don't feel that what has happened is right, thanks too all for there help and support I only hope that I get what is right

I want to make it clear that I wish you good luck with getting it repaired, but my opinion which could be wrong, is I don't think that scenario is really a possibility

all the guides that we have seen break, the entire guide does not break, the top part of the plastic slider on the guide that the tensioner pushes on breaks off, approx. 15-20 mm of plastic, the guide is still intact and keeping tension on the chain, we have always used genuine guides to replace them as that was the only choice we had
