Unfortunately today mine did, It is stock as a rock and 9 months out of warranty so I think this is going to hurt. The car has always been driven hard but at the time it went wrong I was driving on the cruise control so I certainly didn't rev it too hard. The only thing I can think of is that about 2 years ago it broke a chain guide and was fixed under warranty, is it possible that it tweaked a valve that long ago and only just let go today? Mr_4.0 Member 1,096 Member For: 14y 4m 18d Posted 27/07/13 11:10 AM Share Posted 27/07/13 11:10 AM Stock car? Valve float can cause wear on valvetrain that can drop a valve. I would go for goodwill from ford. Even if they only cover parts it would be a win. As for rebuild versus a second hand long - hard to say. It would very much depend on engine damage - dropped valves can damage the head beyond repair and so that would need to be replaced. The short should/might be okay in 5 of the six bores but get the rod crack tested or buy a new one. You might have to rebore as well...... I think you can see where all this is headed bux wiseWanneroo - so WA based. If ford say no - you have Monster torque or XFT as people to deal with and I know West Racing Developments have done quite a few of these engines. Walliston Motor wreckers in Lesmurdie seem to get FG Turbos regularly. The last full engine ( turbo included) I priced from him was $5500.As a suggestion only. If Ford say NO to a warranty claim maybe propose they supply you with a factory long motor at trade price. That will give you an idea as to just how much you will be up for. The marks are quite obviously from when the timing jumped 2 years ago as the car has had nothing done except the log book services. So I called ford and told them what had been discovered and they said that the valves couldn't have been bent as they did a compression check. After a heated discussion I ended up down there, which didn't achieve much,. but at least they said they would send the details on to ford and see what they say. I have attached a pic (note it is not the relief cuts on the pistons but the small indents opposite them) Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/85759-fg-droped-a-valve/#findComment-1411048 Share on other sites

welshy_89 Member 131 Member For: 13y 10m 12d Posted 29/07/13 10:09 AM Share Posted 29/07/13 10:09 AM Mate I feel you pain, I had an atomic spring fail about 2 months ago and dropped the valve and then broke the head of the valve off and it bounced around in the bore for a bit and jammed the head of the valve perpindicular in the head, imo I don't think ford will help but as the lads have said the worst they can say is no. The next question u need to ask yourself is how deep are you pockets and are/were you looking to do performance mods on the car and how far you were looking at going, and that will indicate wether to look for a a used long motor or look at rebuilding what you've got Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/85759-fg-droped-a-valve/#findComment-1411056 Share on other sites
