Quick question for those in the know. Would gutting a cat convertor in a 2006 Petrol Turbo Volkswagen Jetta cause over boost similar to our turbo Fords?

Trying to convince my father this is not the best way to fix a blocked cat lol

well cat is blocked, yeah?

2 ways it can go:

gut cat, car doesnt overboost = happy days

gut cat, car overboosts = new cat; which he was going to have to buy anyway. so you lose nothing finding out, besides time in removing cat, grinding open or whatever it takes to gut.

how could no cat hinder performance you are removing an exaust restriction it can only help performance. They decat their cars all the time in the uk ive done it too all my turbo cars and they love it its only the falcons that seem to overboost so much

Don't be a cheap ass. There is so many alternatives to gutting a cat. If your worried about restriction then run two cats like allot of people. We all love hot cars, but it is all of our responsibility to look after what we live in.

Been a Euro I could only imagine Emission Standards would be the same or more Strict than they are here so removing the cat could make the car throw codes? could have a flow on effect to other systems of the engine just my 2 cents worth that's all. I'll let you get back on your high horse now.

not removing it just gutting it leave the sensors attached shouldn't get any codes unless you get an overboost blocked cats don't actually do that much for the environment they only work well when they are new some countries don't even run then like nz and their environment is fine
