That is a tyre shoot out, we all need new tyres at some point and I for one would like to know which ones are the best for my car. As some posts here have pointed to a car mag shootout using a Expensive Daewoo as the test car. They also found that tyres other than the standard are better for that vehicle.I am not interested on how fast I can go around a corner or take off from a set of lights..... but I do want to know how fast I can stop if a kid runs out in front of me.Lets face it, how many of us actually push there car to the point where the car is about to slide... hopefully we are all more responsible than that on public roads! The alarming thing in the Expensive Daewoo shoot out was the huge difference in stopping distance from 80km......In real terms it was the difference between missing the child or collecting the whole 3rd grade, I know which tyre I would be choosing.So.. whilst I have no experience with testing, driving or organising such a thing, maybe a few people who have could add a post and let me know your suggestions.Being in sales myself I am sure that with our current membership and all the XR's that are currently moving off the lots in Australia every tyre manufacturer would be itching to get a piece of the pie???? (except maybe dunlop)I guess there are 2 ways to do this:-1 we lobby a car mag to do it for us2 (the most likely one) we do it ourselves.PLease let me know any thoughts you have on this as I do a lot of driving a year (40K) and see a lot of stupid things that I need to avoid.my 2 cents worth, thanks for reading Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/8563-tyres/ Share on other sites

UPDATE: Found the issue. They used an XR6 N/A for the testing. It's the January 2003 issue of Motor Mag. ok. They reviewed 17" tyres The ladder according to them.. using various criteria like dry/wet laps, dry/wet braking etc.1st - Dunlop Formula FM901 - Driver prefered in wet and driver preference overall. I rang my local tyre places looking for the FM901s but couldn't find them. Until one place had them but recommended another Dunlop tyre which was superior to the FM901. He said that in fact this tyre had the same grip and handling characteristics as the 9000 but had less road noise and was quite a bit cheaper. In fact he showed me the Dunlop training charts and diagrams.Needless to say I fitted the tyre he recommended and would have to say after 25000km on them I thought they were as good as the 9000.That tyre was the 3000a - the standard XR6 tyre. Not just talking about tyres, just products (non-car ones as well) in general. I have been caught several times buying a product on reccommendation from a friend who thought it was the bee's knee's and when I've got it home found it not up to expectation. I will find it and post the details.Update:Wheels did the same in June 2003.However they only tested 235/45/17 in the approx $330 range.1 Michellin Preceda2 Bridgestone S-033 Toto T1-S4 Yokohama A5395 Dunlop FM9016Goodyear GSD37 Pirelli P7out of curiosity they also tried an 'elcheapo' tyre to see if there was savings to be had...Silverstone FTZ ..but were very poor in braking specs. Now you are even more confused because mich's came 7th in one and 1st in other and similar wierdness with the Dunlops. Pm me if you want me to fax a copy of the articles and you can judge for yourself. Just goes to show how F#$ked up these sort of tests are doesn't it!My advice, drive someone else's T who has the tyres you are wanting, if there isn't anyone around with them then get some yourself and let us try 'em! If they're sh@t put 'em in the trading post! All the hype and marketing that surrounds tyres is always going to sway the salesman, so there's only one way to know for sure, "trial and error".
