Tim, how did you go about getting a replacement fitting for the inline oil filter mate?

Give us some details incase someone else has the same problem.

So does anyone else have any photo's of the day? Steve are you being lazy?

No new fitting was able to be found.

The existing fitting did have some threads which were slightly squashed due to incorrect thread compatibility but as the lead-in threads were undamaged, it was possible to get a good straight start on screwing it into the turbo, and so I was confident I could do this without causing any damage. Basically I greased the fitting liberally (to avoid galling the thread) and then carefully screwed it into the turbo housing, where there was a little resistance about 1/2 way in, but nothing too concerning, so I proceeded to tighten until I could feel the fitting bottoming out on the taper seal at the bottom, and it was all nice and tight. No major problem, and it got the car back on the road again.

Word of warning to anyone else fitting an Earls inline filter with flexible oil lines on an FG model car; The hex extension fitting on the turbo must be removed, so that the flexible oil line fitting is screwed directly into the turbo housing, as the thread in the extension fitting is INCOMPATIBLE the oil line fitting. Unfortunately it is so close, that this may not be obvious to the untrained eye, and worst case if fitted incorrectly, the fitting could separate while driving, making one hell of a mess, and as it is near the exhaust, potentially cause a fire.

Yep as above mr ninka kindly got the original fitting in for me. I was very lucky there was an expert like him on hand or I might have been walking home with my tail between my legs.... Tight as a drum now no leaks for the past week.

That is awesome news. Are you still getting that sound like it is loosing air somewhere, or was that the turbo spooling up sound like Chris said?

Good news Tim! No leaks on my new filter line either.

And since I've been harassed I took one more pic, the warranty replaced filter Ford stuck in my BFII in 2010.

Well seeing as yours made a similar but quieter sound I'm going with what Chris reckons, probably normal just louder cos of intake and muffler delete pipe. The boost gauge reads bang on 9/10psi under full boost as well so I guess that indicates there's no major leak.

Tim, glad to hear that your ride is sorted now.

It is always a heartbreak knowing your pride and joy is not operational at 100%.

Been there, done that.

Steve, how come your filter is different than the others? I thought it was meant to be a circular thin film strip that is across the diameter of the hex nut.

How did that filter fit in there??????

I need more pics!!!!

:P

Hahahah I take it Ratter has updated the thread then! Very much looking forward to peace of mind about the ZF milkshake threat. Have bought one replacement factory heat exchanger through XFT so far just due to paranoia. Group buy coinciding with tax time and a CC to put it on = why not. Will delay rims though...

The screen got put in a very dirty sandy bag so not sure how accurate your results would be, I wiped it off for the pic! Should have thought of that at the time as I am curious.

The filter goes inside this bolt (pic stolen from another thread on AFF)

This is what my factory filter probably looked like too before I got it replaced under warranty in 2010

PS hands up who needs a new windscreen at the next DIY day, hahaha. JK, AAMI will pay for it.
