Another good mate has a manual one (no-one listened to me!) and the thing chirps (spins up quite well) going into 3rd !!!! And you should see it fry going from 1st to 2nd.... All this and it is stock with an exhaust, that's it.My ute has plenty more grunt yet the traction is awesome and doesn't even feel like breaking loose from 1st to 2nd in a straight line. The 18' Dunlop SP9000's are pretty good IMO. Oh, and my turbo ute does his like a dinner also!

My modified manual t ute easily accounts for it, but not as much as you would think! The SS is let down by its absolute $hithouse auto box, woeful is a word. But it does ride better and doesn't feel as disjointed as my turbo can. But then again, my turbo is easier to hang out and keep there safely - on a closed road under controlled conditions.... Shane have you been into Mack's medicine cabinet? The new SS ute I've driven, like the ones I've encountered were diaapointing to say the least. Must be faster on the Northside hey Shane

My ute when standard saw them both off and obviously even more so now, but I thought they went okay................ pass the beer............ aps Member 1,505 Member For: 21y 10m 2d Posted 17/01/04 11:12 AM Share Posted 17/01/04 11:12 AM Does the SS have traction troubles because of the lighter rear end.The SS has a 4 link rear suspension and axle tramps real bad. If they use an auto xr6t my money on the t even though the SS is lighter, go the T. PETER APS

The have been there for quite a few issues now, and the test date is only shown for the XR6T and that's in Dec '02, that ute had a manual transmission, see page 36 Dec '02 issue. So I would assume the times will be updated when the next issue is released.
Guest SS Ute Guests Posted 22/01/04 12:29 AM Share Posted 22/01/04 12:29 AM The problem with the SS auto isn't so much the gearbox. it's the 3.09 diff gears in the auto that make it a slug off the line, that and the fact that the Gen3 is a bit weak down low off the line as well, once it gets to about 2000rpm its great. I know because I drive one. but with a couple of tweeks the launch can be greatly improved as mine has been. It should be a good tussle though, the extra power of the XR6T over the lighter SS, I expect it will be a close thing.
