Just noticed in the latest motor mag that next month there's a shootout between the XR6 Turbo, XR8 and SS utes. And to make it even more interesting they're all autos. I'm the backing the XR6T, due to the fact that we know the XR8 is slower already and the auto in the SS is pretty average compared to the BA's slusher, if they were all running manuals I think it would be line ball between the SS and XR6T.

Anyone else got an early pick? One month to go..... :finger:

Interesting that these tuners choose utes to modify when the sedans are lighter and should go faster. Maybe it's easier to launch a leaf spring rear ended vehicle than an independendent?

Peter from APS told me that the utes suspension setup is better for drag racing, not to mention the $ figure is smaller to.

The utes in the test I refer to are just stockers as far as I know.

My mate has purchased an auto SS ute and trust me, the turbo is going to have its work cut out for it in a straight line! My modified manual t ute easily accounts for it, but not as much as you would think!

The SS is let down by its absolute $hithouse auto box, woeful is a word. But it does ride better and doesn't feel as disjointed as my turbo can. But then again, my turbo is easier to hang out and keep there safely - on a closed road under controlled conditions.... :smilielol:

Not to mention your ute, leaf springs and all is actually capable of carrying a load without having to stop at Bob Janes every 10,000km for new rear rubber, even just towing something heavy stuffs em!
