Convince Me To Get A T!

Hi guys! :D

I'm currently trapped in limbo... I'm thinking about replacing my current car, and the short list consists of the VY SS, and the BA XR6T. Out of the two, I can get a much sharper deal on the XR6T so that's almost decided the matter between the two.

However, I'm not sure I really want to give up my current car. I can't afford to keep two cars (besides not having room for two), so I'd have to sell the one I have before going to the XR6T. I own my current car outright, but I'd have to take a loan to get the T. I hate being in debt. :smilielol:

Anyway, my current ride is a '91 Subaru Liberty RS. It's getting a bit old, but it still goes like a cut snake and shames a lot of newer cars when it comes to the traffic light drags. It's not stock - it's been reengined, boosted, etc. A while back a dyno reading put the engine @ 230kw, so it's no slouch. But... it costs a FORTUNE to maintain, the insurance stings, and there is always something (small) wrong with it (due to it's age).

I'm expecting the T to be slower, but with more "usable" power (the RS is twitchy, boost comes on late and hard). I suspect the RS would be more agile too, but I'm really looking for a lazier, more comfortable ride, with ample power on tap when needed. I'm finding it near impossible to organise a test drive of a T, so I'd appreciate any comments from T owners.

I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of this post is. Whenever I look at a T in the showroom, I get all excited, but maybe it's just the excitement of new toys? Will I get disappointed in the T after the novelty of a new toy wears off? Has anybody here gone from a similar car as what I have (I.e. a boosted WRX) to a T? Please help!!!!

Thanks for reading! :argue:

By the way... I'm thinking Blueprint, but the girlfriend says Phantom. Should I listen to her?

at the risk of copping an ear-full from the PHANTOM owners, I was always under the impression purple was a cry for help, sexual frustration???

eh, who knows! :)

I have no useful info for you re: the upgrade from the '91 RS, however I can say I was also looking at hte VYII SS and opted for the T...never looked back since, and it has only been 3 weeks haha!!!

enjoy when you buy!

All I can say is if you did get to test drive one, you wouldn't need to ask for other people to tell you that you should buy one.

I traded my MY99 WRX on a T, only picked it up 4 weeks ago and already done 5000ks on it. after 4.5 years the subaru had 80000 on her.

long storey short, the T is so much more fun to drive, I find myself going any where the front of the car takes me just for the experience of driving it.

and as for cornering, ive taken the T into some high speed freeway on ramps that have made my passengers "poo there pants" and as an indication, the pasengers seem to scream louder in the T than I ever got in the WRX!!

Is it quicker?? Who cares! its quick enough!

hi Punch :smilielol:

Ive been driving my Blueprint T for 2 days now and I can assure you that the good looks of the car match the driving experience. The key things that sold me on the XR6t were:

the auto gearbox - WRX and Late model camira have no comparable auto setup.

performance - a refined 4.0L turbo with no turbo lag which is smooth and quiet unless provoked, even then it delivers its power smoothly.

low insurance - $792 vs $1200 odd for my old '89 $15k IROC-Z camaro.

high tech features - Late model camira interior looks dated and that reflects the technology it has, its an OK car of course, but its fairly old hat.

smooth ride - perfect balance between comfy ride and decent handling.

Ask yourself how many VY SSs you see on the road vs XRs...

Well, insurance will most likely cost you less if you get the T. But as far as driving the car, it's a damn dream. As many have said, you point the car where you want it and it sure does go there. The car is suprisingly well balanced. I'm assuming that you haven't taken one for a test drive. If you have, then you were luckier than me ;) Taking one for a spin will surely make the decision for you. If you haven't or can't take one for a spin, I'm sure there'd be members on here who wouldn't mind taking you for a spin and show you what it really can do. But if you opt for the T, you gotta get premium sound ;) well worth the extra dosh.

Malcx,

Maybe your passengers are more terrified because you have less control and less grip going around corners. To be fare, you can't compare an MY99 with an MY04 in terms of performance... (I don't want to start an argument here).

Punch Bunny,

If you're partial to a few mods, and it seems like you are, the turbo Ford is a no brainer.

I have 3 rexes at home, including a highly modded Sti, and the modded Ford. As you say "I'm really looking for a lazier, more comfortable ride, with ample power on tap when needed" the Ford modified to at least 260rwkw, which is fairly easy to achieve given what's now available, will make you a happy very man, and sounds like it would ideally suit your requirements.

In stock form the performance of the stock Ford turbo is average compared to modified rexes.

Of course, Blueprint is the only way to go.

Hope this helps.

Brian

thankyou for re enforcing my point. If the car is scary fast in its stock form, its fast enough, isnt it?

the only time I'd want more from her is in straight line drags, and then its only because its sooo easy to get more out of her :smilielol:

I had an RS turbo years ago.. great car except the clutch... anyhow I digress.

The T is an awesome car lots of punch and the reason I bought it...... it handles way better than most cars of 1600kg + mark.

If your in Sydney there are loads of dealers who can take you for a spin. City ford, Thompson and Brad garlick to name a few all have them ready to drive.

Anyway mine is now 350Km old and I am more and more impressed with the car  .. lol.. except that I am babying it around atm so the last tank of gas only lasted 300 km's

CAnt wait to open it up llike I did the demo car.

my 2 cents worth...

PS.. dont listen to the girlfriend.... If I had listened to mine I'd be driving a Hgag thingie........... :smilielol: to team blueprint!

Punch.....Look around at lots of caryards, there are a few T's on the secondhand market now, so it shouldn't be a problem to arrange a test drive, quite simply tell the salesperson that you are keen to buy this car, and after the drive say that you have a couple more to look at when they pressure you for a sale. I was lucky enough to test one from a Gosford dealer and ventured up to the ol' Pacific Hwy...... had a good test run. :smilielol: You must test one with these questions in mind.....
