Hey guys I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to bolt my tailshaft out the hockey puck rubber thing seems pretty tight in there but is moving. Tried tightening opposites equally but I can only get one bolt in all the way the others locked up hard enough to flex a one metre snap on pry bar on the hub. Are they timed? Can not see any start point markings on the diff. Went from 3.46 mk1 manual to 3.46 mk2 auto just done a whole cradle swap and this all that's holding me up. Rang couple of shops they reckon you just piss it in and that I'm slow.

this is where I'm at I've had it down and rotated it and started the first bolt in six each holes this is as far as she gets. One pisses in everytime as you can see but the rest, well I'm turning over the car in gear they tight.

I can and will if need be just don't wanna put it off balance if possible may need to, to drive it to a shop.. I'm glad I'm not retarded I thought they might have been timed bolts. Have you bolted a tailshaft up before on these bro? Do you just piss it in like the shops say? Never had an issue with a tailshaft. I'm glad I don't have a running car as I think I'd be down the shops buying ciggies hey. Everyone keeps talking to me on the phone like I need to pry it a little with a left handed screw driver after a long wait. *Pulling hair out*

Simple as you think it should be mate. Yes I have pulled these apart numerous times between my car or someone elses in the family (4 of them).

They aren't timed or anything like that though usually there is black plastic counter weight thingy that clips on the part of the bolt that has that odd shape once they have been driven fully in. The weights are used for additional balancing I'd gather from ford.. The weights go from one bolt to another as in clip on to 2 bolts in total.

If you dont have them or never did then either you didnt need them or someone else has pulled it out before you and not put them back in.

but.........

What components have been changed since the shaft was removed?

Is the CV joint Square and flat against the Input Flange?

Is the thread on the bolts that are jamming in good condition?

Wiggum: threads seem fine they're the bolts that pulled out before. I have touched nothing tailshaft side apart from dropping it so that I could swap the diff and subframe out.

kroozin : I have the weights they are not through far enough to need them yet ;)

are you sure everything was a str8 swap reg. the sub frame and diff.?

Ive known these cars to have dif. tail shafts in some dif. models for f*ck know what reason.

Do the bolts go fully in if the tail shaft is not there?

Hahah well turned out to be old loctite in there. Took us a awhile on the hoist drove it into dad's mates shop took us a bit to figure it out he was pretty sure I had the wrong bolts. Put a tap through it to clean it up and he was like na definitely right thread then figured out the old loctite. After a tap it just went straight in hey.
