Monsta Torque, bud. Lots of us on here from Perth have had positive experiences with them. Although, I seem to remember one of the guys (Darren) left MT to go somewhere else...could be wrong though. Either way, still worth a visit.

Ah, right you are, Ralph. XFT aside, I don't think I've heard any overly confidence inspiring from stories about Fords being tuned anywhere SOR. When you're talking $$$$ for mods and tune (especially important with these cars) I'd recommend potentially broadening your scope and being at least willing to drive a little further for it, even if it is a little inconvenient.

Monsta torque and XFT are a long way away if he lives near fremantle like me.

 

There are many competent shops south of river for maintenance but for modifications and tuning XFT and MT come recommended for good reason.

 

My car was modified and tuned by BPT in 2012 and for reasons I won't get into, the owner took it to XFT for a retune that same year.

Too many guys out there are recommending tuners based on what they push out of an engine KW wise, even though the tuner delivers a car which has crap cold starts and in some cases poor drivabilty.

 

A good tuner will deliver the car to you with factory like driving manners.  If the car has poor cold starts it is simply not tuned correctly and you should not accept it. Of late have seen enough shop tunes to start questioning the ability of these so called " tuners". Either being lazy or just not understanding how to do it properly. Getting the power is the easy stuff. Getting the power and factory drivability is not that hard but seems some shop "tuners" still can't do it, yet have been "tuning" for years.

 

Now going thru a few "shop" transmission tunes.  Transmission tunes that are tuned to shift hard on low load/low rpm driving range when quite easily can be tuned to shift alot softer in the cruising range and only hard in the high load/high RPM range.  Just lazy or maybe just tailoring to the boy racer who feels he got his moneys worth when it slams into 2nd gear slowly pulling out of the workshop.

 

My advice ask guys how their car starts in the morning and how hard it shifts under 2000rpm. If poor starting and hard shifting then look for another workshop. The power number is irrelevant.

^^ over 900rwhp and still drives like a normal car. Cold starts are no problems. Car goes 5 weeks at a time without been touch and then started with out any dramas.

Regarding gearbox it depends what you have done to it? If you have a big unlocked converter it's not going to drive like a standard box. But you are right in saying if it 'slams' into gear there is something not right.

As previously saying I recommend Monsta torque, have been going there since 2011 and wouldn't go anywhere else.

Funny you should mention it turbo Trana my car starts cold like sh*t. Even stock it wasn't great but tuned it's far worse. Took it back once and they blamed it on the battery. Changed battery slightly better but still not good. And it stalls on hot starts as well. Other than that it's perfect.

When I get em to rebuild my gearbox I'm just gonna keep taking it back until it's perfect, I was too forgiving the first time

Can you shed any light on what makes the cold starts so bad? They didn't seem to know.

curious if you're filling up with BP?

 

my cold start this morning was smooth as butter and the only thing that is different is shell 98 in the tank.

yeah not so keen on the tune that my zf has, was built a few years ago with billet input shaft,etc.

 

It's certainly adapted to my driving style since I bought the car but the way it shifts from 1-2 is enough to make the car lose traction on a slippery intersection. I can control this in manual mode which is what was suggested to me straight out.

 

With traction control off and medium acceleration it's nice how it chirps wheels between gear changes but I like to think I drive with much more mechanical sympathy than I used to and don't wish to break anything.

 

There are many local mechanics who are competent with falcons, I would use one for basic monkey jobs (bushings, brakes, fluids, etc) and a specialist for turbo falcon specific items (turbo, ecu tuning, etc).
