Thanks everyone on the feedback on this topic  :ta:

I struggle to comprehend the amount of useful information one can gather on this website.

Just on the warranty issue Peter, does APS have any warranty on phase 1 kits with regard to engine or driveline failure?

Yoda Hope some of this info helps you. We do offer a warranty on the UNICHIP product to be free of any manufacturing defect for a 2 year period, though we dont offer any engine or drivetrain warranty. It would be impractical in terms of cost if we were to offer such a warranty. On the a more positive note if the engine is tuned within the APS spec and run on 98 ron fuel I doubt that you will have any Issues with the engine.

What about 95RON, I can't get 98RON anywhere near me in VIC country? Does that mean because I can't get 98RON that I can forget about a unichip or do you mean I can have the unichip but might experience some problems?

ALXR6T There are many different ways to go about this problem, if you cant get 98 ron fuel on a regular basis then I would suggest that the engine be tuned for 95 ron premium. The power will be down 5KW approx when compared to an engine tuned for 98 ron fuel though its safer to tune the engine on the fuel that you can purchase easily. The other option which I think you will prefer (though more costly ) is to set up a 2nd Ignition map with less timing so when you cant get 98 ron fuel simply flick the switch to the 2nd map which is set safely for 95 ron fuel. This way you can have max power for 98 ron fuel and safety when on 95ron fuel. Of course its more time consuming to set up two timing maps , changing fuel between tuning etc ,etc, though it is an option you should consider given the circumstances you face. I hope you understand my explanation.

Thank for replying so quickly Peter, I understand what your saying. But is the two map idea that practical, what I mean is what about if I have 1/4 of a tank of 95RON and then fill up with 98RON, would it still be safe to use the 98RON map?

As far as tuning the two maps go would you have to tune the 98RON map and then I would have to use as much of that fuel as possible, fill up with 95RON and then get a second map tuned?

Would the 95RON map be OK to use the 98RON fuel if I was say in Melb and that was all I could get?

Thanks,

Adam.

Hi Peter

So does this mean that there is a fair bit of onus left on the tuner to not lean things out too much?

Does the procedure for installation and tuning of the unichip give the tuner unlimited scope or does the unichip have fixed failsafe parameters?

Henry, Good question I hope my answer is up to the task. Not really as APS spent many many hours developing maps on 6 different cars ( auto and manual ) to generate maps that are perfect for the intended power level. As fuel and turbo pressure varies from engine to engine the tuner needs to check each car and make small mapping adjustments ( custom maps ) to ensure the best state of engine tune for every individual engine. The UNICHIP allows the dealer a great amount of scope for tuning, and we need to trust the dealer to use common sense and stay within safe and practical limits of the xr6t engine. All of our UNICHIP dealers are aware of the limitations of the stock fuel injectors and will stay within safe parameters on air fuel mixtures ignition timing and turbo pressure. Sorry for the long rant.

Peter,

I am very interested to take part in an info day in melbz regarding the new phase1 system. Will this be available for LS1 engines as well as I'm sure my mate in his SS will want to try and 'keep up' with me.

Cheers

CHIEF TWO dog's, Good to hear that your interested in attending the Melbourne UNICHIP demo day. I now need to get off my butt and get the event organised . We do have a UNICHIP to suit the LSI though we have no plans for a plug in harness at this time. The plug in harness is a massive project and I need to see how successful this concept is before commiting more resources to develop the LSI product. In any event the LSI will need plenty of extra grunt to stay with the mighty xr6t.

Peter, don't forget us here in Sydney. I'd be most interested in attending... still kicking myself for not turning up to the one you held last year

Thanks Peter,

Yeah I wasn't sure whether you'd be able to do it for the SS although I know you can install the normal unichip. I don't think it gives out the same amount of power as the turbs though! Look forward to the info day.
