To start the story, this is my ride.

11/02 build (first reg 04/03) xr6 ute (N/A) SSS, Phantom inside and out, windor tint, std sterio, 15,000km. No damage what so ever.

Was driving past a used car dealership and saw a Merc silver N/A ute with the following

02/03 build and reg, leather 35,000km, SSS, tint and std sterio.

The damage on this ute was as follows.

All 4 wheels had kissed the gutter at some stage, small dent and hole (????) in the tale gate, front bar had hit a kerb and severly damaged it (about 40mm play in it)

The asking price....... $37,000 plus on road costs.

As I am rather fond of the merc silver (dont get me wrong, phantom is great) and long for the feel of leather. I decided to entertain my curiosity and see what kind of trade could be done as most if the damage should be able to be fixed before I took delivery.

The change over price... $6000 and I took it as it was.

I asked the reasoning behind this and I was told that there was two reasons.

1/ It is an 02 build

2/ The colour

Given the fact that you can pick up a new ute with the same specs as the one above for similar or less dollars if you shopped around. Does this seem really strange, or should we all trash our rides, run up the kays and sell them quick?

I would say that without a decent price reduction, that car is going to be sitting in the yard for quite a while.

What can I say, you want the best color, you pay the premium price! :innocent:

But really, if you can't get a brand ne N/A cheaper than that there is something wrong. You should look at the "what did you pay for your ute" thread in 'UTEopia'as I'm sure some ppl didn't pay much more than that for their TURBO ute!

Car dealers :innocent: ...... they probably picked it up for under $30k or cheaper at an auction. I was looking at a sedan turbo, at the dealers last week, 02 build, white, sss, no other options, 30,000 kms and they wanted $46k for it, could have a new one for near that price!!!

Brand new that ute would cost $36,455 + on road costs and tinting (Ford website). Maybe they're banking on someone not wanting to wait for one? Bit strange to see a second hand car with a price that didn't include the on road cost calculated into in already.
