I have the Hero 2 and freaking love it. Use it on the g6e at 180+ with the suction cup and stays solid. Wind noise is a big killer at high speed but I have seen dozens of microphone accessories for it

I wouldn't cheap out, gopro is simply the best action video camera out there. I have the hero3 black and love it.

As said, the control isn't really needed unless you want to take stills while recording

I got the silver, couldn't justify the extra for the black, paying for the wifi remote that is useless if u have a smartphone, and the slightly higher specs seemed more aimed at pros for post production. I'm happy with the silver.

What do you guys use them for SHP? What do the cheapies not do right? Just poor quality, break?

Okay remote's unnecessary so probably lean more towards the silver than the black then

We do drive throughs scoping road damage and auditing of large roadwork sites.. So the cheapies work okay for say the auditing, because you are usually looking at machines and road signs, but when you need high detail and the ability to capture stills from the video the contours and go pros are used..

Also should mention that some of our scoping work has been done 130kmh+ and we still got good pictures on the GoPro and contours..

We use in cab mounting (windscreen usually),when we need to give commentary and mount it centre of nose or on the flat of the bullbar when we don't need sound..
