.. Tell me all those diesels in the city are fuel efficient when the catalytic converter never gets hot enough.

Ok

my Dmax is 2.5t fully loaded and still returns 8.8l/100km pure city driving.

If ford aus wanted to "beat" the notion that falcons are thirsty they would have put a diesel in. No, the idea was to kill off the whole production down under to save head office all those r&d costs

The cats on most modern motors are actually part of the exhaust manifold or directly behind the turbo, so they get warm quickly...

I'm talking all the ppl who drive their diesels 10 mins in crawling traffic to work... There's been reviews that show that if the car doesn't get driven far enough they don't get up to temp and the fuel efficiency is rubbish, more so with diesels. But whatever, I'm also sick of ppl who go out and buy a new car just so that they can "save money on petrol"...

That's more to do with the particulate filters not the cats, in very crude terms they take a bit to get hot and function to regenerate, and until that happens it will dump in extra fuel to compensate which absolutely kills the consumption. On some vehicles it gets that bad after many short trips that the oil ends up full of diesel and then you obviously have all sorts of dramas.

The diesel fitted in the territory doesn't have a DPF, but would need to after 2016. Clearly that's not going to be an issue though!

With the Falcon on the way out what does this mean for future tuning? The replacement may open up opportunities for generic mail order tunes from the US similar to what people do currently with the Ford Focus.

Does this leave dedicated tuners with no choice but to focus their business more towards Holdens or Japanese performance cars?

You make it sound like every Falcon is going to be scrapped the day Ford shut the doors. Tuning will continue on regardless until there are no cars to tune.

just went on to the ford website- no wonder the falcon is doomed with advertising like this:

seriously this is what their selling style is. boring as bat sh*t.

wake up ford....

this is the link to fords fg xr6 turbo 'exhilaration' tab. oh the irony. boo

edit: it actually isnt quite that bad- I right clicked and opened in new tab to get that view..

if you just click it opens a pop up.

on another note was checking out fpv site and the gallery images suck. very non inspiring... just a few close ups- where are the shots of it powering around a corner or driving down a killer country road?
