Mondeo, Malibu/commodore, Camry

Why replace a car in a shrinking market segment with a car that would sell less? The plan is surely obvious from the "marketing" over the last 2 years: distance yourself from large sedans, make no reference to any products being Aussie built, introduce new technology that answers common key concerns with the product (eg, ecoboost and LPI as an answer to the gas guzzler tag) and then dont tell anyone, remove the Falcon nameplate from people's minds, act in amazement when sales fall and you "need" to shut down.

Apparently large sedans are on the nose all over the world. Good thing Ford is smarter than BMW and Mercedes. Those German fools!

Er... except China, right?!

How so? I know of many businesses that only keep their doors open until their lease runs out. Leases can be expensive to break, regardless of who your landlord is

2016 has been floating around as the end-date for years by plenty of people that are usually worth listening to, it fits for so many reasons. And as every day goes by it's become more apparent that they've obviously been directed to let the falcon brand die a slow death to justify it. Bunna's post above makes that blatantly clear (you missed mention of FPV though).

Which is a real shame as the Aussie engineers/developers etc. have done a brilliant job with these things and just keep getting better. Anyone around the world that sees their potential or has the opportunity to drive one can't believe what they are missing out on and how great we have it.

Sadly unless something miraculous happens in the next few years I really can't see any worthy replacement being available in the same price bracket.

Listen as I type this I know I'm going to get berated.

But people still want big sedans. They just have to be smart.

I drive a Skoda Superb Elegance. A ugly as f*ck car. But it's large comfortable filled with mod cons and economical. I average 7 litres per 100 k on 98.

I don't think it's the largeness that is the issue.
