You know what's kinda 'funny'. Share market took a major hit today primarily on the back of this announcement. I guarantee a lot of those business people with $20k plus share portfolio's driving around in their golf's etc would have had a bit of a whinge today about the decline, but in some ways, them not supporting the local car industry is partly the reason for their share portfolio decline. Bit ironic hey

Considering all the dropped shifts and extended shutdowns...no I don't think the poor bastards could.

Getting a bit sentimental, but this is where it all started for this forum:

Have met so many awesome people and made a sh*tload of mates as a result of this advertisement and the good old BA XR6 Turbo...it's an absolute bloody shame they didn't keep up the brilliant marketing and manage to get an export program happening.

If anyone can find a high-res version of the advert please let me know. And to answer what used to be the most commonly asked question on here - it's Slow Jam by New Order.

It will be interesting to see if any car builders return to Australia in the future. An article in the news a couple of weeks ago made me wonder on a few things.

A company that used to manufacture in China has now come back to Australia(Riverland area, SA) and opend up there.

Reason being, getting too expensive to operate in China.

I have said for a while, once the Chinese, and any other Asian country, get a taste of the Western world mod cons(Maccas, Plasmas etc, etc.) they wont work for nothing, and then their wages will be expected to go up to buy these luxuries. Bingo, back to Australia everything will come, because we will be the "new" 3rd world country.

India is the new China....plenty of third worlds out there that'll do it cheaper.

It will be decades before there is any kind of turn around and it will only get worse in the coming years.

We lose the vehicle manufacturers and the subcontractors that supply lose too. The land of OZ is changing but into what is a big time question. Maybe a giant mine if WA is any indication - then we can fill the holes that makes with debris from China.

Anyhow - sympathy for the workers and anyone else hit by this - As for the Falcon...... I don't give a stuff because I am keeping mine as long as possible.

Despite all the quality issues, and it doesn't have this or that gimmicky thing - it goes likes stink and the only euro things that gives it a hard time on the road are turbo porshces and M5 BMW's. The M3's are toast as are C63 AMG's. I can fix most of the basic stuff and It costs me naff all to insure. The euro stuff is great - but a nightmare if they play up. I drove a 530 BMW with that friggin I Drive system. Christ.. too hard.( and too damn slow.)

Anyway - I am an old pr1ck and by time my T is finished, I 'll be ready for tip anyway".

A great shame. I look forward to getting one of the last Aussie built falcons and cruising it to Bathurst passing all the VW, skodas, citroens, ssangyongs etc along the way

I remember those ads too, I wanted a T since they first came out and finally got what I wanted when I bought an FG 2 years ago. Like others I will keep mine a long time too, won't be a collectable because it will be driven but I'll love it all the same.

I was always a ford man so to speak but in reality I like all cool cars so if I ever end up buying a holden, gm, suburu or whatever (not kia or skoda or china poo), I'll just want a car that's good value practical and fun to drive, and the end of the day that's all I'm worried about.

Hopefully imports can do that, so long as we don't keep getting ripped off, but I bet the fusion or taurus or whatever they import will be priced way higher here then overseas even if it is their one world car platforms.
