You can't honestly believe involvement with V8 supercars had any bearing on the decision. You don't make failing cars just so you can lose money racing something that looks kinda like them. The reality is the teams could continue for years with the same cars, since they're not produced by Ford anyway.

The comments on all the news sites make me feel sick about where we are heading as a country. Last week was the derogatory remarks about Holden's (frankly) excellent attempt at the VF commodore, and this week the same people are demading money be paid back (they're my taxpayer dollars too, fools) and stating how much their better Japanese and Euro cars are.

I wish we had a "20 years ahead" crystal ball because I'm concerned. How can we afford all our Euro cars if we don't have jobs?

Have a look at the comments on Wheels' facebook page if you want to be properly disheartened, Bunna. It's shameful.

A while back I read an article about GM transferring all manufacturing of the Late model camira from Aus to the states in 2016, so who knows what may happen. Could be an exodus come 2016 before the next level of euro emissions standards come into force.

2014 updates will still go ahead, they'll still look good, and they still won't be competitive.

Officially turning the lights off in October 2016, but then again Mistubishi closed pretty quickly didn't they?

At least that's a small amount of positive news.

How does this affect you bunna? Are you in manufacturing or design and engineering?

As an aside, I saw a GT500 near Arncliffe yesterday, couldn't have been very old at all. It sounded awesome and looked good too so if that's what ends up being the replacement, I'd buy one of them.

Didn't get a photo, was busy stuffing around filling out the log book while driving, haha.

A sad day for Ford. Heart goes out to all the staff that had the plant running and produced the cars!

Will salute a Drink for Ford & their staff this weekend for sure!!!

Most of you missed the point. We as Australians have commited suicide by demanding higher wages( thru our useless unions), which in turn puts up all costs in real life. Wages go up, food goes up, parts go up, cars go up, then everyone wants more money again to buy those things that we have forced up, and the wheel turns around again, and again.

Certainly feel sorry for anyone who looses their job thru these tough times, but I bet the unions dont put up their hands, and take some of the blame.
