Bringing back an old thread as my Jag engine has finally died. Well the head gasket went and when I pulled the head off one of the head studs snapped at the bottom of the block. I'd need to pull the engine apart to fix it. Plus it's a great excuse to go ahead with the project!

What I'd like to know, and some of this has been covered already, is what route to tuning the OE ECU will be best for my application. I really want to go with the ZF so it needs to be able to work with that.

SCT - From what I've read so far, it can switch off the PATS so I can get the engine started and the ZF can be tuned. Cost should be $1500ish?

HP Tuner - Possibly do the same as above, similar price?

Other - ????

Had a quick read about ViPEC V88, but it's way to pricey for me!

G'day, I can't help you with the ECU, I'm too old school to know much about that but there are plenty of guys on here that are great with that sorta thing.

As a previous owner of a series 1 (sml block chev) and a series 2 carb V12 this thread got my attention .

I'm just here for encouragement as I loved those Jags.

This sounds like a great conversion and I would try and make the ZF HAPPEN !

It's one of the best things about these cars.

It's absolutely worth chasing it and will really make the old girl a very nice car.

You will want to run a lower diff ratio and LSD otherwise 6th gear will be useless. Somewhere around the 3.5 depending on wheel diameter.

I think your main prob will be the turbo side( as you mentioned) as it's pretty tight down that side.

The trans tunnel should be big enough for the ZF width and height wise , but length maybe an issue.

I have both a Ba man and FG ZF TURBO so if you need measurements or pics just ask!

As previously said keep it in sleeper mode as it should be at least as quick as a XR6T because they are similar weights.

Cheers and GOODLUCK !

I If you want to go with the zf using the OE pcm from the same car as the zf is the easiest way but has it's own head aches. Most people will say the ZF can not be run stand alone without the OE pcm, however I did find some info on a programmable controller that can do just that and I did post a link in a similar thread.

I could hardly recommend it as I have never used it and dont even know if anyone in aus has experience with it, but sooner or later somebody has got to be willing to have a go. Then there will be zf's in everything. Hit up google, if u dont find anything ill see if I can dig up the link(I cant even remember the brand of the thing)

Be sure to be keep us updated with a build thread if this goes ahead. Personally these are my favourite kind of builds. Its a little irrelevant but for anybody that watches MCM on you tube they are doing a pretty epic build at the moment, 3.6l boxer 6 out of a 2011 tribeca into a liberty wagon, with a gtx3576 bolted to it of course. Seriously worth a watch.

Yeah in watching that barnz.

That turbo is brilliant but I don't think it's suited to the low boost setup of the ez36 but each to their own.

And 11 SECONDS IS NOT SUPER CAR TERRITORY!!!

Thanks for encouragement Tex and for the info barnz. I'll give google a go a see what I can find.

Are you saying that I can't run the XF if it has come from a different car? Because the OE ECU won't talk to the XF module

From another car (VIN)?

I beg to differ.

Most mid range Ferrari' s and Lamborghini's will only run at 11.xx 1/4 time. Along with most of the older supercars eg. Ford GT, Enzo, Mclaren F1.

Also the Lexus LFA, Porsche Carrera GT, AMG SLR, Nissan GTR (I think GTRs were about 11.5 in the earlier models and 11.0 in the later ones).

11s in definitely supercar territory, not all supercars but definitely a good portion.

Currently I have the std XJ open diff in the rear end. I know that will work fine but it is 2.89:1 ration (I think) which is very long. I can get an XJS diff which is an LSD and a much better 3.54:1 ratio.

I'd also want to fit a Series 2 or 3 front end which has the vented brakes. Yes my current rotors are solid! That said they are pretty good. The other advantge of fitting the S2/3 front end is that you can use the S1 upper wishbones and gain some extra castor.

Just re-reading this post.

Have you done the brake conversion yet?

I did the same on my series 1 with series 2 front brakes.

The solids were a pain because of warping.

The vented rotors with the BIG ( and they are like huge) 4 pots was a good upgrade.

The reason I brought it up is that from memory I think you have to get brake hoses made because the threads changed from series 1-2.

I could be thinking of another car though.

Sorry if I was.

They make it seem like 11s is just totes amazeballs.

Maybe in the 90s and 20s buts it's 2014 now.

Both performance versions of our taxis can get there quiet easily.

It's just not that difficult or special anymore
