Are There Probs With The Xr6t?

Howdi all

I am about to shell out the $$$ on an upgrade from my AU2 Futura to something a lot more enjoyable. Gotta cram 3 little kids in the back in booster seats so the XR6t is a nice fit for what I am chasing. I also am keen on the rex but will be too tight I fear for the little nippers in the back.

Problem is when I shell out 50K for a new car, I want a car without troubles, rattles and squeaks. I have read on here about the brake issue and this certainly puts a bit of a downer on the car as I don't want problems. Are you guys aware of any other common faults or issues with T?

I know the rex is a solidly built car and the japs(god bless em!)know how to bolt them together pretty nicely, but changing gears in the peak hour crawl will soon drive me crazy with the rex and its a bit squishy!

On the other hand I just struggle with the thought of spending 50k on a car I know will be back at the dealers regularly for repair. :finger:

Well its 50k and that's a lot. Some have had isses with brakes and other IMO minor irritations. Well you could by an SS and wait unitl the engine needs a rebuild!

Australian cars are just that - Australian. Take your chances and you will be very happy with a T.

If your worried about space for the kids by a people mover. The T is better than the WRX for space. (I have had both)

Last car I had was a second hand 5 series. Not an issue ever with it and tighter after 6 years than a new T!

Go to thread on those that have been driving for a while.

I've had mine for over 12 months and yes I have had the shudder issue and it will cost me another $500-700 to fix when I put the DBAs on it. I have also had some other minor issues which my dealer has fixed and which have not returned.

As for the handling, the amazing torque and just the goability of the car it is sensational.

remember it came third to a couple of benzes last year in the sports car of the year.

For my mind, go for the Ford and either cough up the extra cash for the premium brakes or put DBAs on from the start.

You won't be disappointed.

Iv'e had mine for 11 months now. Had a few issues...brake shudder twice :banghead: the radiator developed a leak and was replaced  an anoying alternator whine in the audio system (some times) :banghead:, and it took a while for Ford to get the hand brake adjustment right.

With 27,000km on the clock I still LOVE driving it and so does the wife. It is not clunky or rattely at all so far. We have to kids and there is plenty of space in the back for them. Three would be IMO tight but it would be the same in almost anything else regardless of price.

Get one I say, you'll not regret it :banghead:

Well guess I have to post the only problem I have had, I picked up the T with 8000ks on the clock and drove to Sydney there was this faint high pitch sqeak squeak squeak noise that I first thought was breaks but countinued after ideling, turned out to be a pulley eatining into the drive belt, the mechanice at Ford dealersip up here at Coffs said he knew what the problem was without even looking at it, so must be a common warranty all fixed smailed again goes from ear to ear

Pergarob,

Mate. I have had mine almost 9 months. It has 40,000ks on the clock. As I do mainly hwy driving and have had the brake issue. I would consider this a minor irritation rather than a huge problem. I simply mention the issue to the service guys and they fix it. Problem solved. Yes it does return but it can be resolved again.

I have had a baby seat and 2 adults in the back seat comfortably on long trips. I personaly think the Rex will be far too squeezy... Then the other issue you may need to consider is the maintenace of the rex. I have had a Subaru in the past and they charge big $$ for normal services. (It was $250 for a minor and $500 for a major - you may want to check this..)

After my last long trip around Australia towing a van (you can do that with a rex!) mine is still squeek free (been on some pritey rough tar and dirt roads). I would not swap it for a rex.... I still love the T, the space, the look... What more can I say. See if you can catch a ride with someone on the next run and you will see what I mean!....

my 2cents worth!

I have a problem pretty much everyone has, all the time!

I don't have enough time to drive my T as much as I want to!

Otherwise, no problems.

I too had an AUII Futura Sedan. I got the XR6T in November and have since completed 7000 KMs. There are 2 distinct differences between the AUII and the Turbo. I actually prefer the lightness of the steering in the Futura....but damn, when you put the foot down in the Turbo.....ooooppppaaaa.

As yet, I haven't had any problems with the Turbo but then again I didn't have that many problems with the Futura although the radiator split open when I had just completed 103000 KMs ( just outside the 100000 KM warranty ). Ford did come to the party though and replaced it free of charge.

Just so that you are aware....when I purchased the Futura in 2000, it came with free servicing for the first 60000 KMs....this does not apply anymore to the new Falcon range, so keep that in mind when comparing costs.

In conclusion, I haven't regretted purchasing the Turbo so far.

Period noise in the diff, I've had 2 replaced and back it comes at 95kph. Whoever makes them must have built a bad batch. If you want a quiet reliable car in my opinion I would go for the Fairmont not the T or if you want a quick and quiet car go the Subi (how dare I say such heretical things) but if I was doing it all again with the T, I'd wait for the series 2. Quiet smooth and rattle free the series one T is not. A great performance car with all the associated comfort loss the T is. Mines done 11000klm. I think it's a good car, but I also think that they are somewhat over rated and whoever gave them PCOTY at Motor magazine must have been a distant relative of Henry or married his grand daughter or something.:blush::ermm:
