Sorry to put you on a bum steer JBXR6T. The orange part was meant to be the font colour for the names of the people which didn't seem to have worked.

Im pretty sure all gauges are the same colour as the dash instruments as shown in the picture Cdm posted in this thread.

Sorry bout the mix up.

Well, mine arrived this afternoon and is now installed and working. The installation was not without a few dramas! It would be easier the second time around.

The gauge does what it's supposed to do. Most of the time it's simply a vacuum gauge. With a bit of acceleration it goes to 3-4 psi - flatten it and it goes to 5-6 psi. A couple of times with a few revs up it went to about 9 psi very briefly! - didn't know it was supposed to do that! Overall, it just seems to confirm what you feel anyway through the seat of the pants and from that marvellous turbo whoosh/whistling sound.

The only real disappointment is the colour of the surround, which is noticeably lighter than the rest of the XR console. I think the reason is that the console colour in the XR's (and Mrs Z's XT) is Graphite. 3 colours are listed on the back of the triangular blanking plate - graphite, d stone and w charcoal. But only d stone and w charcoal are listed on the back of the plate with the gauge. So, I figure that graphite is not a colour available in the Fairmont console, where our gauge surrounds come from.

The overall effect is not too bad. The gauge surround is sort of in between the colour of the rest of the console and the silver strips across the dash and around the gear selector.

Anyway heres a photo of the installed gauge:

Paint it the same colour as ya car! that's what im thinkin *shrugs

The GT's have the clock with the correct colour, therefore they must make them the correct colour!!

Someone should find out if they can change it to the right shade of trim??

Hi all

I had a word with Luke at gaugeworks. He explained that they actually paint the surrounds as the clock surround is not made in Graphite (as I surmised in a previous post).

He said they have come across a fair bit of variation in the colour of graphite colours in the cars themselves as supplied by Ford and one person from Queensland even complained about the clock cover supplied being too dark!

I explained that Mrs z's XT was made in may 03 and mine in July 03 and the graphite panels are identical in colour and much darker than the panel supplied with the gauge.

Luke was very keen to address the problem in a constructive way. He said that, if the feedback from the others that are currently being sent out is that they are consistently too light, he will revise the paint colour that they are using and do a "swapover" for the "early adopters" like me.

I was very impressed with Luke's helpful attitude and the amount of thought and care that has gone into the development of this gauge. For instance, they did a lot of testing under different circumstances to get the level of illumination right and it does dim with the other dash lights. The quality of the kit as supplied is clearly very high. I'm confident gaugeworks will rectify the colour glitch one way or the other.

So, let's have some feedback from the others who have received kits. If the colour variation is similar to mine it might be worth holding off on installation and letting Luke know about it. If most panels from most cars are darker, like mine, we may need to get some blanking panels to Luke so he can revise the paint colour they are using.

Hope this make sense - haven't had my morning caffeine dose yet.

Cheers

zeke

*nods* Good work for chasing it up Zeke, and hopefully a few of the early adopters will send Luke a few blank panels so that they get the colour right...

Still as already mentioned for some peopel it may be cheaper to just get the panel repainted locally instead of having to pay for shipping back etc etc

Further to that ....

I just got off the phone to Luke as well, he'll get sick of us soon.

As Zeke said they are adressing the colour issue.

He also said that the 'group' buys were a bit of a pain as in the past they have basically been just a bunch of individual orders.

So for a group buy we must have.

;) 1 person we all go thru.

;) 1 payment for all gauges.

;) 1 delivery to 1 address, so we will be up for a bit more postage to distribute them.

So XRPhantom still up for the task? If so count me in for a 10 psi auto, Otherwise I could do it.

Another fact I did not realise is 10psi are as shown. But for 15 psi, zero is where -10mmHg is and 0 becomes 5, 5 becomes 10 and 10 becomes 15. During vac situations the gauge will move backwards into the off scale region which may look a bit odd.

But at least you would not get the letters Hg on your dash. :finger:
