yep that's the first thing that should be done.

have you tried the system with your current electrical system? might be ok and not need a diff set up...

Not the better system, but the 1kw system I have in the car at the moment is making the electrics do funny things (mainly just dimming the lights) when I have it turned all the way up.

People often just run a capacitor, I'd try a new battery first heavy duty cell fancy one then if no good run a cap then if no good start doing the other stuff that's harder and costs more.

not sure bout xr6's, but there were a few SS's that would go flat if they left light bar on, display on when performing traffic stops or operational duties etc. Solution was to leave car running.....

I am going to ran a cap anyway, but I want to get everything in there in one go as I don't have much room to play with as I have a gas tank as well. I want to do a proper boot install so trying to add things after I do that will be a bit hard. I want to run the stereo while the isn't running for at least 30 mins, hopefully for close to an hour and I had been reading car audio forums that said a HO alt and 2nd battery is needed when going for a large system, but if you guys think that isn't necessary...

Just to run a 3000w stereo a 2nd battery will be needed. I dont think a h/o alternator will be nescessary. Dimming of the lights will always happen with big bass notes. A good battery nears the amps will help heaps with this, a cap may make it worse.

So now I'm definitely going with the stock alternator and a battery in the boot, but what your saying is that a cap may make it worse. I don't quite understand sorry. I knew that if you had battery or alt problems a cap would make it worse, but if they are fine wouldn't a capacitor help, especially with the really hard and fast hitting bass?

A cap may make your lights dim more. Will help supply your amps with more power but then keep drawing power after the big bass note to recharge itself. Most car audio nuts say a cap is not needed in a system with enough power supply.
