Yep there is a definitive difference in video but it depends entirely on the quality of the film. Some of the early blu-ray releases where essentially just dvd quality whacked on a bd.

Sound wise it is much better if you have a decent system so that you (and the neighbors) can feel everything as well. In nerdy terms there is no/minimal compression on a bd so it doesn't usually have to be decoded by the amp like for anything else, but you'd need to be a proper connoisseur to notice it.

They also have more features on the disc that you'll probably never use.

Generally now everything gets acquired through magical means via a home theater PC in high-def which negates the need for a bd player, but it still gets a bit of a workout every now and then for a few live concerts I've got on bd.

PS: You got ripped big time on the cable, massive scam they are IMO.

agree with all comments ^

I was definately wowed with the quality of the blue ray

but

basically

its hard to tell for eg. you go in the shops (JB hi fi) and watch a blue ray movie, but its hooked up to the top of the range LCD tv, and using the best quality cable money can buy.

so hard to tell whats really making it look good.

hook up a blue ray to a average tv with average cable and tell me the difference????
