Okay so recently we upgraded the TV to a Sharp LED Quattro thing.. With the TV I purchased a Blu ray player with a $200 HDMI cable to connect it up.. Cable was double the price of the player.. Yeah go figure..

Anyhow my question is.. What am I doing wrong? Or do I need a decent home audio setup to fully appreciate Blu ray?

I've got a massive DVD collection.. And Quite impressed with how the DVD looked on the TV (only watched The Expendables so far).. So out of curiosity I picked up Sherlock Holmes and Taken on Blu Ray.. I didn't really notice that much difference in picture quality.. Or do I have to watch a DVD of one movie then immediately follow it with the Blu Ray version to notice the difference?

Do I need to try some other Blu Ray movies?

I find blu ray very underwhelming tbh

Honestly avatar I think is the only movie that had genuine extra input thrown at it to push the blu ray crap

I bought a swanky panasonic blu ray dedicated player when they came out coupled with a monster HDMI and yeh so so lives in the cupboard now

Yeah it's not convincing me to put the Xbox away as it was my DVD player.. We got an LG Blu ray player with exactly that a 'monster' HDMI cable with some lifetime warranty etc..

I guess it's not so bad since the price diff between BR and DVD discs isn't as much as a couple years back..

But exactly that.. Feel a bit underwhelmed..

Do you notice that much of a difference between BR and DVD bomber?

Is so what sort of movies etc do you watch?

I've been told avatar on BR is good before.. Might have to check it out.

The DVD res is being upscaled for your tv. Natively DVD has a much lower resolution and doesn't have HD audio like bluray.

See being a dude who's quite deaf.. Audio don't mean too much to me.. As most things I watch have subtitles.. Unless there are no other people in the house or neighbouring houses...

Without sounding too picky... I just wanted to know if anyone was wowed by the picture quality first time they watched Blu ray?
