Guest Scootre Guests Posted 10/01/04 08:54 AM Share Posted 10/01/04 08:54 AM I had my after-market DVD screen installed today. It's one of those "installed where the cabin light goes, flip-down" jobbies. If you have kids, this is a MUST-have item guys. After the short 20 min trip home my kids were so enthralled they hadn't realise that we were in the driveway and about to get out of the car. Many of you will know that I was stuffed around at delivery time so this "$2000" unit was my compensation: a freeby from the dealer.Only thing I forgot about before it was installed is that this thing does obscure part of the rear-view mirror view.I honestly thought it would have been a piece of crap unit. You know... you get nothing for nothing... well, what I got was an awesome unit:- 8" flip down screen - I thought this was still too small (Ford factory ones are 7" I think) but it's huge when you're watching it. Screen is 180 deg X-axis and 180 deg Y-axis swivel.- Two built-in cabin lights.- Boot mounted head unit. Only the 7" screens that the audio guys offered offered han all-in-one head / screen unit. I wanted the bigger screen.- Extra RCA leads in cabin for connecting a PS2 or Xbox.- 2 x Infrared headphones. And really nice ones too. Very compfy. Big soft ear muff thingys and a nifty adjustment method to fit my 2yr old's head. Personal volume and stereo-mono adjustment on the headphones.- Fully featured remote.I asked the installer for an invoice for my insurance records. It says $2400 but I think street price is $2000 give or take. The dealer apparently paid $1450 for it (both dealer and car audio shop told me the same thing)They had an issue installing it though. We got some RF interference from the engine - lines (barely noticable) on screen. They fitted a choke on the unit's power line and a noise filter on the car electrics and the problem is almost gone (now can only see it on continuous tone backgrounds if you look hard. Though I've decided I'll take it back next week and let them have another go.Or am I being picky? Anyone else got one with a similar issue??I know there are logistical issues with trying to get a video device working cleanly in a car hooked in a system that has an an alternator. Or should that not be an issue these days?I'll upload some pics of the unit if anyone is interested.

Guest Scootre Guests Posted 10/01/04 10:07 AM Share Posted 10/01/04 10:07 AM Yeah mate that's it.I was thinking also that if I realy wanted to, I'd be able to get the add-on "aux-in" kit (or whatever it's called) added to my premium sound and then run a lead from the games RCA leads under the back seat so that people in the back could watch the movie without a head set.Hmmm... if only I was 18 and single... I'd be able to run movies in the car and entertain on the back seat. Pics - sure thing. Prolly won't be able to do them for the next day or so. Taking a trip up the coast for the day tomorrow... me and the missus alond with two kids of whom I don't expect to hear from the whole trip. I created it myself and it has three screens, one in the roof where the interior light used to be, one in each of the sun visors hooked up to a PS2 so the kids can watch dvd's or play games. The audio is fed through the aux input of the stereo head unit and also through ir headphones, the screens also have a second input which I have used to install a reversing camera in the rear of the car so my wife can park the car easier. The ps2 is intalled under the passengers front seat with a 240v power inverter and video amplifier installed under the drivers seat, only takes a couple of hours to install and works great. Sunvisor screens purchased off ebay for $500 the pair, centre screen 7 inch from Strathfield for $440 video amp $100 power inverter $100 ps2 $349 aux cable $30 total$1519 for a three screen system. Just food for thought,
