Is My Car A Bf Or A Bf Mk2?

Hey Fellas,

I just bought my first Ford - it's a 6 speed auto 06 black XR6T sedan.

I bought it because I recently had knee surgery on my left knee and have been having trouble driving a manual and heard nothing but great things about the ZF 6 speed auto box in the BF's and always wanted a XR6T due to to how hard they go standard and how well the respond to mods (probally grown out of the modding phase now but still good to know if I ever have the need for more grunt from her).

I also have 2 kids and we are considering a 3rd so needed the upgrade.

I'm trying to figure out if it's a MK2 or not?

The plate says it was built 06/06 and I think this was when the first BF MK2's came out but I'm not certain? Was hoping that someone here could confirm for me?

It has the ZF 6 Speed Auto transmission but I think all BF's came with this regardless (unless 6 speed manual).

Is there any way I can confirm if it's a MK2 or not?

I must say I love the way the car goes and I was expecting it to be difficult to drive due to the size but I'm pretty much already used to it after about an hours driving.

There's only 2 things I don't really like about the car and that is the roof still looks like a taxi and the doors shut so terribly, they are like your grandmas fridge door.

I've gone from a 05 Subaru WRX wagon to this and even though I miss my pillarless doors that thud nicely I'm not dissapointed in my purchase (still have the WRX gave it to me wife and traded her 02 WRX Wagon in for the XR6T).

Anyways I'm glad to join the club and l looking forward to reading up on what mods I could potentially make in the future.

It would be a lot easier to use the VIN and ask Ford or a Ford dealer. The date looks right for a MK2.

Yeah - build quality is something to ponder but they seem to last. Get a Tune done on it. It will sort out any minor driveability issues and cost nothing in fuel usage (if you behave) - that will really convince you about the buy when you pass the line of traffic.

Separate MKII badge on rear below Falcon badge.

I've been looking at all the carsales adds of cars listed as BF MK2's made in 2006 and 90% of them don't have the MK2 badge on the back.

It seems that Ford only started putting the MK2 badge on the back towards the end of 2006 and beginning of 2007.

Mine doesn't have the MK2 badge on the back.

Is there anyone who knows a definitive way to ID if it's a MK2?

BF Mk2 started in October 06 and most of the dealers didn't see them until November.

The build date you are referring to (06/06) is when the bottom end was upgraded so the the rods were the same as the F6 Typhoon. But even that can be hit and miss.

I would be confident in saying that your car is a BF Mk1

My doors shut lovely due to replacement of all door rubbers and the main rubber that runs right along it. have a feel of the actual rubber on drivers door and then compare that to one of the back doors (less use) for me it just felt thinner and different on the drivers door (which shut louder than the others).

It was like $300 for the main rubber that goes right along the top though....
