Can someone please explain why we pay more for automotive parts in australia than anywhere else in the western world..I had a customer looking to buy some front struts for a porsche cayenne...From porsche australia 3k each..From porsche UK 1.5k each..Both geniune porsche...Where does the rest of the money go..Tax.. porsche australia?Every automotive part from spark plugs..NGK plugs 100 000km ones here retail for 20 plus..In the states 7.29 each..Another mate of mine bought some bridgestone tyres from the USA..Bridgestone dealers wanted 300 each for them here..He bought the same tyre same size for 150 each..The new Expensive Daewoo dunnydore is cheaper in the states than it will be here to buy..Who comes up with the pricing ..Why the fark do we pay so much more?

This applies to almost everything, not just automotive parts.

Also take a look at just for example, the price of a new Subaru STI in USA is low 30k, here its above $60k. The dollar is close enough to even, and the car is manufactured in Japan. That is a huge difference. Even more so, check the price of a new 911. Around 240k here and 80k in the USA, once again its not made in the US.

But this applies to a lot of things, we earn more in Aus and are willing to pay more for a product would be part reason.

I know we have minimum set wages here..But where does the extra money go...Is it a tax? or do they make more money selling to australia..I know the the european dealers are trying to close the loop hole..Mercedes has close the back door ..Not allowing factory dealers to export to other countries .

a link to bridgestone tyres USA would be good. How much was postage?

might be worth looking into a group buy. 19's

This guy brings containers of parts for his race car..Just threw the tyres into the container..

We are a much smaller market compared to other markets which doesn't help.

As for money wise people in the USA don't earn the same as us for doing the same job they might be making US$8.00 per hour where we would make A$20.00 per hour.

Importing and fright cahrges also apply to items, which could cost more depending on how they are transported via sea or air and the size and weight of the package.

I know people would buy cars in the USA and have them shipped over in containers, but they have the engines removed and placed in the same container and have them declared as parts, which only cost A$3000 to ship vs shipping the car as one unit which can cost an extra A$2000 ontop.

Maybe worth just getting a container then.........hmmm think I might look into now.

I would say TAX and or shipping cost nick because we are not part of the world cause we are sooooooo far away.

you might lose the lot angel...Bridgestone being a registered brand...Would have trade restrictions in place so good chance customs wont allow or would seize goods..

that's what we are made to believe...Sports shoes Nike and the rest made in asia..Should be cheaper to send to Australia..Why do we pay 3-4 times the price?

Same deal for software that's not even supplied on physical media.

They tried dragging a few of them before a senate inquiry recently to get a bit of media air-time but it will make fck all difference, spineless bastards won't change anything. Pricks rip us blind when selling then funnel all their profits back overseas so they don't pay company tax on it at the other end either.

And all the gubbyment wankers and local retailers are worried about is not collecting GST on small imports from people that can see how much they are being ripped-off so do go and buy direct from O/S.

On that topic too if anyone is looking at buying stuff in the states from places than only send to a local address don't be afraid to use a package forwarding service. I get free membership with myus.com through my amex and they give you a local address and then forward stuff on, can re-pack and accumulate packages too if desired. Small parcel is about $30 and here in two days...better than what a lot of retailers in Aus can manage.
