Mixing Transmission Fluid

I want to replace the fluid in my zf with gulf western syntrans, I want to get all the old fluid out by filling it with syntrans and then draining it again in a few days,

Is the syntrans compatible with the life guard 6 fluid, so whatever is left over in the transmission is going to turn bad when it comes into contact with the syntrans

Is there an easier way to flush the old fluid out?

your never really going to get it out of the converter..Just remember its going to cost $3k plus to reco transmission..Are you are gambling sort of guy?If me I'd buy correct approved fluid for ZF box...The question your asking are the ones you should of asked gulf western...

J@ just re-serviced his box. He did a full flush the first time around using the GW stuff and then when he re-serviced it 40,000kms later (or whatever it was) the oil came out like it went in and had no troubles.

So I'd say if you run some oil through and flush it properly you should be right. Heaps of guys using oil other than lifeguard and they obviously had to change at some point.

But the first time I did the zf it was

Drop old stuff , fill new GW stuff run it through gears , drop it , fill it through gears , drop it then add new filter and fill for the last time

Alot of mess but the last drop had what looked like just clean GW oil comming out

And also run it until it gets up to temp and have the car off the ground with going through all the gears and keep repeating getting it up to temp each time

Bitch of a process and a hoist is a must and a helper

Thanks guys, going to get 20L of GW and a temperature probe, seems pretty straight forward.

Once it's at the correct temperature Id imagine that it's pretty hard to over or under fill it

Actually to correctly fill a zf the fluid temp must not go above 38 degrees

However im sure that spec was given for the lifeguard fluid so not sure what the go is with aftermarket fluids
