Hi all

Sorry for newb question

1. Is that possible to have turbo back street legal exhaust that can pass 90db limit test?

If not what is the way around it?

2. Can you simply go for downpipe and high flow cat instead, and still get to 400rwkw?

On BA/BF if you do the dump and cat and leave the stock muffler system, you get a deeper exhaust note. I suspect that set-up will pass the 90DB limit but could not say if you would get 400 at the wheels with stock mufflers.

Some of the aftermarket systems will go under 90 db limit and will advertise noise compliance.

Well, noise wise, APS did ( covered in other threads) but that was a while back ( heading to ten years??) and they retained the stock dump pipe. It must be possible as the Bugatti Veyron meets euro testing on noise. Testing and re-design is not cheap of course and building mufflers that flow well and supress noise is certainly an art.

The Stock FG system with a cat change seems to do pretty well in terms of getting it all under control for 300+ at the wheels. The nizpro system goes the other way - wins out in the emissions issue but I have no info regarding noise.

Fg system with just a cat is good for 400 but not the same for b series.

I've seen 398 but I think nizpros gone further with the frank pack.

Just remember that brand new cars now pass a "drive by" test. When being approved for production.

When you get an EPA notice after buying your car,you pass a "exhaust tip" test.

This is how stock exhausts on new cars can fail an EPA test yet be sold.
