I gotta admit.. I do carry two laptops and a tablet most places when I travel..

Both my laptops weigh 5-7kg so the tablet is what I use for watching movies at night..

Agree with Dags to a certain extent. My laptop (and PC) get hardly any use now thanks to the iPad, Nexus and smartphone. The laptop is not very cost effective either.

As for the OP it's probably got a dud system fan and overheating. But yeah...send her back.

Laptops are a waste of money/time get a tablet.

They can now do everything a laptop does without having to close the lid, lug it round or boot up.

Well my aim is to get it free and if its just a matter of formatting it and it runs better than awesome.. Already have a 1st gen iPad and that is annoying as it doesnt support all videos on some sites.

Putting in an SSD would be awesome but cbf spending anything on it.. Dandy market $10 windows 7 or 8 cd is where I draw the line lol...

I have a gen 3 iPad. It's handy, but doesn't come close to a laptop when researching things, typing emails, and video support. Or web page support for that matter. Yes an android is better for previous comment, but I much prefer having an actual keyboard

Mike, set back to factory default (follow restore procedure), uninstall ALL of the Sony software (you don't need ANY of it, it slows down all even reasonably new VAIO's to an unusable level). Then install the stuff you need (firefox/chrome etc) and go nuts!
