I don't think an external is any better. In have a 38mm external and its a touch to small and it will end up a lot more expensive.

Simon did some 42mm internal ports a while back. Not sure if that's the path he still goes down. He will obviously retune it so $1000 is reasonable. Best just to book it in and get it done :-)

The gtx is just the front housing and core spinner

U use your old rear housing

And it definately needs the port and flap for the gtx to go on to it

Simon mentioned to me just yesterday when I was collecting car after a refresh of tired components (190,000km old valve springs plus timing gear skipped a tooth!) that the actuator should be replaced every 80 thou. My turbo is 90 thousand old now and still holding boost OK even with new crow springs retune and a few more wasps. Gearbox is really next on the cards for me anyway so I hope the actuator holds out a while longer. When it does go south I will probably go another stock spec one as I'm happy with power levels to be honest.

Once you get it sorted Matt, have a gander in WA section and come for a cruise! Watch out for the cruise controllers though they are d!ck heads and some even get punched in the face hahaha.

Mine has done 108,000 so would it be better to just buy a new turbo? Perhaps one with a flapper that's large enough already? Not wanting to go for a high mount just yet either. The car however rarely gets driven as I work away and have a second car, and does not get driven very hard so maybe I can expect a little more life out of the turbo? Or have it rebuilt???

I'll definitely be keen for a cruise mate, been trying to jump on board for a while now. Just let us know where and when

I'll be putting together the March cruise just as soon as my car is 100% again. Make sure you bring all 51kw of the Brumby! hahaha. I post a new thread in WA section when the cruise is being organised, probably 2 to 3 weeks from now.

Sounds like a plan. I've got two other mates with turbo falcons who are keen to jump onboard also.

Think I'll be leaving the brumby in the shed for that one mate, don't want to be showing up the boys in their Ls1's aha

If you had say 80,000kms or above and it was going to cost 1k for the flapper mod surely it would be advantageous to buy a GTX for around $1350 no need todo flapper mod and then have a turbo to resell to recoup some of the money spent on the new turbo + retune costs.

my turbo has done 104 800kms, probably not worth spending 1k on an ageing turbo. Since my turbo is old, whats the max rwkw I can push on the fg xr6t without getting the flapper mod done? 280rwkwish would be nice
