Wing Mirror Cover - How To Put On

So I was backing into the garage and just glanced the drivers wing mirror cover. It flicked off. No damage to the mirror, no damage to the cover. Now I'm left with the two pieces in my hands and I am trying to figure out how they go back on. Is there some sort of trick to it? Does the mirror need to be folded in or out to get the cover into position? I see the top half fits in after the bottom half, but I can't figure out how to best maneuver the bottom half into position.

I literally have no space either side of the garage and it is belting with rain, so when I moved it forward to try and see, I got drenched. I'm not kneeling in the rain any longer on pebblecrete with long wet hair dripping into my eyes trying to figure it out!!

Thanks... Apologies for my stupidness in advance, it is probably ridiculously simple, but too hard to figure out in the rain!
